A Photo - how far would you go?

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006 by Donncha

Thomas Hawk is defending himself from Jill Greenberg’s attacks and threats of court action because, in his opinion, what she is doing is abusing children.

Her capture emotional children who are distraught and frightened. Tears run down their faces, hands are held to eyes to hide tears. She apparently works them up to this state herself. Who would do that to a ?

She is taking babies, toddlers under three years old, stripping them of their clothes and then provoking them to various states of emotional distress, anger, rage etc. — so that she can then take of them this way to “illustrate her personal beliefs.”

Well done Thomas for standing up to her.

Mick Flannery at the Spiegeltent

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006 by Donncha

Mick Flannery played to a sold out audience in the Spiegeltent last . He has an amazing voice, he’s a great song writer and the audience were up in arms crying and shouting for encores at the end of the gig.

The Lynch Mob joined Mick Flannery on stage to the delight of the audience.

Airbrush a pretty girl

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 by Donncha

You may have seen this already, it’s on delicious, but it’s something I’ll read over later so I want to mention it. This airbrush tutorial is very detailed, showing each step with accompanying screenshots.
The result is quite a stunning image in the Playboy tradition of perfect skin and tones. Fake but it’s what want!

I posted a similar touch-up tutorial a few months ago, but it concentrated on general techniques for giving a more punch.

PSPI - Using Photoshop plugins in GIMP

Monday, June 26th, 2006 by Donncha

2006-06-27_ptlens.png PSPI has long been the best way of running in the version of . I’ve waited for a version with anticipation and it has now been ported! Not all will , but I tried the trial version of PTLens and once I pointed it at the .dat file it worked perfectly, if quite slowly.

As well as the efforts to run actions in this is a great addition to the arsenal of and tools to aid photographers!

Need ? This article reviews 10 free . I installed the Virtual Photographer one. It works quite well, although the preview window is a little wonky and don’t move the window or it won’t redraw.

The Tin Pub in Ahakista

The Tin Pub in Ahakista
The Tin Pub in Ahakista

One of the highlights of in Co. is the Tin Pub set in the middle of an area lush with vegetation, flowers, trees and lovely West Scenery.

Jacinta visited here several years ago with her friend Mary when they had a picnic in the back garden. We did the same, after asking the family who own the building. You see, the wasn’t open yet, but then Tom had a wedding the previous and finished at 4am. Shortly after we made ourselves comfortable outside and had poured our tea he showed up and smiled when he saw our picnic.

After our picnic we got chatting to Paul and Cath, who are over from Cornwall for a week. Over a pint we soon got lost in the easy going atmosphere of the and before we knew it time had caught up with us and we had to make the journey home.

Despite Pete McCarthy’s assertion that driving down a road with grass in the middle means you’re going the wrong way, you should try the “alternative route” to . When you leave take the first turn right to Sheepshead and you’ll see it sign posted a few miles down the road. Go slowly, because others use the road, but the scenery is amazing. If it wasn’t for the fact that we were late leaving home, I would have stopped several times to shoot landscapes.

I can’t remember the last time I was in this part of the world, but the beautiful scenery and laid back way of life means I’ll be back!

Bonfire night.. adding fuel to the fire
Fire Brigade arrive

It was Bonfire Night in yesterday. It’s celebrated on St. John’s Eve and there have been bonfires lit in for as long as I remember. Not all parts of the country celebrate the , and I heard on the radio 2 days ago that there may be a by-law passed in banning the lighting of bonfires that because of the danger to , property and the services.
Unfortunately each year the services are attacked with rocks and other weapons when they go to certain areas of the city.
