Sometimes your world is just a little off kilter and not completely level.
Photo of St. Patrick’s Street, Cork taken back in January this year.
You know that a photo is of an often photographed subject when WordPress has all the tags required for it in the “most used tags” section of the Write screen…

An eagle owl at Fota Wildlife Park watches us human visitors with careful, observant eyes.
Watching this bird and the others the trainers had was an awe inspiring experience. I’m glad I took my 75-300mm telephoto lens!

It’s inevitable that photos put online will be stolen. It’s a fact of life unfortunately. People think that just because something is on a website they can use it and claim the photo is there own.
Sometimes it just gets silly however.
Check out this guy’s photos on photo competition site pictures2win.com. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you may recognise this photo. It looks very familiar doesn’t it?
With the help of Google Goggles on my Android phone I checked a few more photos. This photo of Venice (despite the author saying it’s in Pakistan) looks suspiciously like this one from the National Geographic. I’m sure they won’t be too happy to see that.
The Pictures2Win T&C of course include the condition that photos “must be the work of the individual submitting them” but there’s no link to report stolen images. I contacted Martin at that site. Hopefully he’ll take a look at that user’s account and take appropriate measures.
Thanks to _jmphotography for telling me about this photo theft.

Waves crash into the sea wall at Garrettstown Beach, Co Cork a few weeks ago. Beautiful day for a trip down there and the wind blew the sea into violent waves pounding the man made obstructions on shore.

The Truman Show was filmed in the town of Seaside in Florida way back in 1998. Feeling old now? This is the house where they filmed interior shots of Truman’s home. You’ll recognise scenes from the film if you visit the town, but trees and bushes are a bit more overgrown now.
Anyway, Automattic went to Seaside last September for our annual meetup. While the location is beautiful, the humidity and temperature even in September were unbearable for this Irishman. Some of my colleagues who are used to those conditions had no such problems but I was desperately glad to get into air conditioned buildings whenever I could! A few of us went for a photowalk late in the week. We set out at 7.30am before it got too warm and had a good time exploring the area. Yes, 7.30 in the morning!
Definitely worth a visit there, just go in the middle of winter when the temperatures are likely to be more manageable!

I took part in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade here in Blarney today along with my son and wife. We walked with the Community Preschool group and I am utterly amazed at the stamina of young kids! Little 3 and 4 year olds walked around Blarney and still had energy left to play with bubbles at the end!
What a wonderful day. I’m exhausted. Here’s a few photos I took.
Edit: more photos here and here, uploaded by Blarney Blog.

3 boys playing with a football on Garretstown Beach. The tide was coming in and I watched them kick the ball out into the water. The day was freezing though with a strong offshore wind. Brrrr.
