The Truman House

The Truman Show was filmed in the town of Seaside in Florida way back in 1998. Feeling old now? This is the house where they filmed interior shots of Truman’s home. You’ll recognise scenes from the film if you visit the town, but trees and bushes are a bit more overgrown now. Anyway, Automattic went to Seaside last September for our annual meetup. While the location is beautiful, the humidity and temperature even in September were unbearable for this Irishman. Some of my colleagues who are used to those conditions had no such problems but I was desperately glad to get into air conditioned buildings whenever I could! A few… Read More

Frosty morning in Blarney

Frosty morning in Blarney

Another frosty morning in Blarney, County Cork. I’m glad I work from home. The roads are deadly now. Snow fell in Dublin yesterday and the city practically came to a stand still. It hasn’t snowed in Blarney yet but the roads have been bad. We had a Christmas Day adventure when the car didn’t make it up the hill to our house. We had to leave it on the main road. Two days ago I did a handbrake turn on the ice to do a turnabout. Wheels were turned right, hand brake was still partially on (by accident!) and when I pressed the accelerator the back wheels stayed in place… Read More

Derelict and red brick

A long unused, derelict and run down red brick building on the Old Youghal Road. This was shot last September, first time I’d been up around this area in a few years. Nothing much had changed in all those years. Aperture ƒ/6.3 Camera Canon EOS 40D Focal length 162mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/640s

Storm clouds over Spanish Point

A large and ominous storm cloud blew over Spanish Point in County Clare while we visited the beach there. Thankfully it only rained a tiny bit and didn’t spoil our time in the sand and on the rocks! Aperture ƒ/9 Camera Canon EOS 40D Focal length 18mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/200s

Reflections on Kinsale

If you walk along the quay in Kinsale, Co Cork and glance across the harbour you’ll see the houses above. I’ve always wondered who lives over there and what do they think of the busy tourist town across the water. Aperture ƒ/11 Camera Canon EOS 20D Focal length 59mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/80s

Public Seating

Plastic seats outside a house, near yesterday’s home I think. We went for a walk this evening by the reservoir in Inniscarra and I got some nice shots of my family and of the setting sun over the water. Unfortunately when I got home a number of shots were corrupted. I’m not sure why or how, but I’ll have to set aside some time this week to test the card. It’s brand new, only bought a few months ago when I bought the Canon 40D. Grrr. Aperture ƒ/3.5 Camera Canon EOS 40D Focal length 10mm ISO 400 Shutter speed 1/320s

My Home from Home

What do you do when you get home from holiday? Put a clamp on the wheels of your caravan! I could make a joke about cleaning the wheels of their home, but that’s an obvious one and I’m in a hurry tonight. Got a surprise birthday party to go to soon! Shot somewhere near Slough in the UK, I think. Matt was driving and took a wrong turn or two not that I’d have known any different! Aperture ƒ/7.1 Camera Canon EOS 40D Focal length 11mm ISO 400 Shutter speed 1/125s
