Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet

A Boeing 747 is readied for another flight, with hand luggage on board.

This is the plane that flew me to London Heathrow from San Francisco. I shot the photo through the plate glass of the departures lounge. It was converted to b/w and dodged/burned afterwards. The panoramic format works really well when the image is 3504 pixels wide, but I’m not so sure about the small format uploaded here.

No pictures of the Cobh Peoples Regatta today. I didn’t have time to work on them this morning!

Six Apart Mark

Niall Kennedy drove myself and Mark Jaquith around on a small sight seeing tour of the local attractions in San Francisco after WordCamp last Saturday.
A visit to the offices of Six Apart proved to be too good a thing to pass up so we posed for a few photos on their door step!

WordCamp was great, I met really nice people, I uploaded a set of photos to Flickr, linked to a few reports on it, and was very glad I got home on Tuesday. Imagine having to put your camera equipment into the hold of an airliner?

Automattic at the Bridge

In the background is the famous Golden Gate Bridge leading to San Francisco. Thank you Diane for the directions to this amazing viewing point and thank you Toni for the lend of the car!

White Reflection

Pure white light reflects off the waters of San Francisco Bay in this shot taken on Friday night. Thanks again Niall for that mini tour!

Ferry Building’s Clock Tower

The clock tower of the Ferry Buildings, San Francisco. We had a pre Wordcamp dinner with lots of people in Taylor’s Automatic Refresher.

I was glad to meet many people for the first time, among them Niall Kennedy, Scott Beale, Michelle Clay and Safire.
I guess giving me business cards is a good way of getting a link out of me! Thanks Niall for showing myself and Bryan around the building. Some of the shots came out great, they’ll appear over the next few days!

Four Buildings Skyward

Four buildings reach to the sky downtown in San Francisco. We had a great meal in a Thai restaurant shortly after!

We Went Bowling

We went bowling today, and I took a few shots. So far nobody has attempted to kill me for shooting so many photos!

An open air meeting of Automattic yesterday went superbly, although we’re all a little burned. Sitting in the afternoon sun in a park by the Golden Gate was worth it though! Thankfully my luggage came, along with my suntan lotion.

iPhoto isn’t *that* bad, you’re limited in what you can do, but I haven’t got X11 installed so I can’t run the GIMP. For some reason, the dmg file off Apple.com refuses to install because it’s an older version than software already on the machine. Any Mac head know what that’s about?

Andy in the car

Andy Skelton pictured in the back of Matt’s car here in San Francisco!
This is an experiment in iPhoto because I can’t ssh home!

Andy took a photo of me in the airport as we waited for Podz. I was wilting and falling asleep on my feet.
Note to everyone – don’t pack your shoes in your luggage. If you’ve walked through fertilized grass in the previous year, the US security scanners will detect it as an explosive! My bag arrives tomorrow..

46 stars and lots of stripes

How long ago was the United States made up of 46 states? According to this site it was 1908! This flag may date back to that time because it was brought back from there by my grandfather in 1929 or the early 1930’s.

I must say thanks to my Uncle Ray for bringing that flag along to a family get-together tonight!

American Bald Eagle

This bird, the American Bald Eagle, took my breath away when I saw it at the zoo. He looked so majestic and dignified, despite the fact that he was surrounded by bars in a large enclosure.
The shot is at the extreme end of the Canon 75-300mm zoom and it’s a little soft. I wish I could have retained more detail from the beautiful downy neck.
This bird is of course the national symbol of the United States.
Pictured in Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago.

I have a ton of photos to post from the St. Patrick’s Day Festival here in Cork. There are street performers and drama, markets and stalls and a rich mix of cultures present and it was a great experience.
The best news? It all happens again today if you missed it yesterday!
