Thumbs up for Cork! You may remember this gentleman from a photo I posted around a year ago (it’s pure coincidence I’m posting this today! Really!) This was shot in Midleton, Co. Cork during the Food and Drink Festival in 2006. Nice guy who came over for a chat afterwards.

Emergency! In an emergency such as a fire you want to be able to escape from a building quickly and be assured that there’s plenty of water to fight the flames. I presume these capped pipes have something to do with that purpose?

Horgans of Blarney The Irish flag flies outside Horgans of Blarney, a souvenir shop in the village. Despite the fact that it’s between the butcher’s and a pub, I’ve never been in there. I doubt most locals have been. Still, nice to see the flags waving!

Carroll’s Quay Apartments This is the apartment block that sprang up opposite the car park, from which I took this photo. The building itself is a dull grey monstrosity. Large windows look out on the street, hardly offering any privacy for residents. Tiny balconies sit outside some of the windows.

Chains of property Chains line the road outside the entrance to the private manor next to Blarney Castle.

Emerald House B&B At the corner of the main green in Blarney sits Emerald House B&B. I’ve never stayed there but they have a great location, right next to Blarney Castle.

Mr Whirly the ice cream man An ice cream van in December? Yes, Mr Whirly was in Kinsale. Obviously someone isn’t bothered by the cold!
