Caution! Unprotected High Cliffs
A sign at the base of the short hill below the white pillar near Bantry in Co Cork warns of high cliffs. Unfortunately Adam was asleep in the car and I couldn’t venture any further so I’ll have to return some day to take photos of that pillar.
Customer Parking Only
The Organic Shop in Douglas Cork obviously has problems with non-customers parking in front of the shop. Why else would they put a wheel clamp on prominent display next to their warning sign? Lucky for us we were buying something ..
Shame on Fianna Fail
“Shame on Fianna Fail!” declares a sign propped up against the wall of the Crawford Art Gallery in Emmett Place, Cork last weekend. It was left there by someone attending a protest demonstration organised by Alliance for a Better Health Service. I was handed a Socialist Party leaflet, Kathy Sinnott was there and a small…
Directions to Blarney Castle
Blarney Castle is that way. Go out the gate, turn right, turn left and park. Right in front of you. I got back to Ireland yesterday afternoon. A mostly uneventful flight home, except for some problems with check in and I had to check in twice more. On the last attempt I got bumped to…
No visitors on the QE2
Crowds gathered to see the Queen Elizabeth 2 off from Cobh 2 weeks ago, but they weren’t getting on board unless they had a ticket!
Queen Elizabeth 2
Luxury cruise ship Queen Elizabeth 2 tied up at the quayside in Cobh, Co Cork last Thursday. This was moments before she cast off. You can see a tug in the background of this image. It was bitterly cold down on the quay, but we were lucky that the evening sun cast a lovely golden…
Carvery Lunch
Carvery Lunch, the fast food of “proper food” IMO. Many will be going to pubs today for their Sunday lunch and it’ll be carvery on offer. Nothing wrong with it of course, but some people are snobs about eating out and want food delivered to their table. Considering the price of carvery food, I can…
San Francisco 4884m
San Francisco is 4884nm (nautical miles?) from Cape Clear in Co Cork. Have you noticed the misspelling yet? I never did until a few minutes ago!
No Through Road
Construction work on the building site between Emmett Place and Patrick Street in Cork continues at a pace. Despite the slow down in the economy high rise cranes can still be seen on the city skyline and are more prominent than the recently opened Elysian.
Warning sign in the wilderness
Another shot of the Electric Wires warning sign I posted yesterday. This one gives you a flavour of the landscape in the area, and the desolate, remote location of the sign.
Electric Wires
If you’ve ever taken the Naomh Ciaran II to Cape Clear Island this sign will be familiar to you. WARNING ELECTRIC WIRES 60 FT (18 Mtrs) OVER HIGH WATER LEVEL PS. The cheezburger are the latest blog to use the Thieving Duck. Hope they link back to the original post. PPS. They did, saw a…
Eddie Rocket’s
Eddie Rocket’s in Blackpool, Cork. I haven’t eaten here. The last time I did was in Galway at a Linux thing, probably in the late 90’s when all I remember was that it was overpriced. Still the same?
