The writing’s on the wall for Heineken

Heineken logo silhouette on the ground outside a cafe in Kinsale on a very bright sunny day some time back.

If you’re wondering, the image above mirrored, otherwise the logo would be backwards!

Spotty Cactus

Another cactus shot from Arizona. I’m sure this is as boring as the flower pics everyone else posts for people who live in the desert but it’s all new to me!
Black vignetting caused by a polarizer!

Spikey Cactus

Cacti are probably an everyday sight for people living in desert regions, but I look out the window of my office and all I see are lush green trees, an overcast sky and the threat of another shower of rain. They’re an exotic plant for me to see out growing in the open.

They also make for great black and white subjects as the spikes leave great long shadows against the low January sun. Expect more of these in the next few weeks!

A previous spikey photo is a lot different, and creepier!

Me and Justin

Down in Kinsale on Monday, I watched a couple get their small boat ready to sail off into the harbour with my friend Justin. He’s a keen sailor but he hasn’t been on the water in ages, and I could see he was itching to get out there. To be honest, the evening was so nice I would have liked to get out there and sail off on the calm waters.

This was actually just outside Gallery ICA. We popped in for a minute but Haydn was on the phone and couldn’t talk so we didn’t stay too long. Did I say how nice the evening was? Got lots of shots too of a very busy bank holiday Kinsale. The place was teeming with people.

PS. I’m going to be plugging the Doneraile Photowalk all this week. Hope to see you there on Sunday!

The road to Blarney Castle

This is the private road to the estate on which Blarney Castle sits.

As I was walking about one late winter afternoon I spotted the lovely light shining through the trees and just had to take a snap!

Shadows on Slea Head

Shadows from the broken clouds above play over the landscape on Slea Head in Co. Kerry. Every moment was a different photo until the rain eventually caught up with us!

Shadows of a blue sky

Shadows from unseen clouds leave their mark on the ground telling of their passage through the heavens.

Shadows on Powell St

The shadow cast by a young man waiting to cross the street forms the main subject of this unusual image. Sort of messes with your head doesn’t it?

Silhouettes in the club

Some of the audience who gathered to take part in the Stanley Super 800 video of Gatecrashing silhouetted against the bright lights around the band’s equipment.

I underexposed on purpose so the silhouettes of the people in the image contrasted with the stage lighting. Shot during a break in performances when most people were outside getting some air!

The shadows have it all

Sometimes it’s the shadows that are the focus of my camera rather than the people in it.
