Abstract Signs

A little fun I had with signs on one of the side streets off Oliver Plunkett Street.

The Lone Guitar

A street entertainer plays his guitar on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork last month during the WW photowalk on the 18th.

I have the winners of the hotel rooms for next month’s photowalk. I picked them with the help of Alexa, Laughing Lion and Andrea who picked the first distinct numbers between 1 and 5. Thanks also to Laura, Elliot (might need rounding up?), Ron and Dena who also responded.

And, the winners are (cue drum roll, etc):
1. Pa Dineen
2. Kevin
3. Rudy

I better get on to Damien or Pat and tell them. They’ll probably have to get in touch with the winners next week!

O’Briens Sandwich Bar

“O’Briens’ HQ placed in examinership” according to this news report yesterday. This is their fairly recently opened (and more recently closed) “sandwich bar” on Oliver Plunkett Street here in Cork.

Loved their Triple Decker, even if it was a little pricey. Hope the company survives.

Haircut, pint and hangover pills

So, start off in the College of Hairdressing to tighten up that stylish hair of yours, then off to the “Hi B” for a pint (but turn your mobile phone off!) and then downstairs to Minihan’s Pharmacy for the Alkazelser.

Actually, I don’t like the Hi B. Any pub owner who verbally attacks his customers is a pub I don’t want to frequent. Lovely people in the pharmacy though.

Faces on the Door

The doorway of an abandoned cafe on Oliver Plunkett Street. This one is next to The Old Oak and I’m sure I remember it open once, but it always seems to be closed down.

Shot during the pre-iba09 photowalk a few weeks ago.

Sparkling Flowing Christmas Lights

Blue glowing and sparkling Christmas lights flow down from the roof of Benetton on Oliver Plunkett St. in Cork.

I loved the reflection in the car and had to take this shot. It was hand held and I’m quite sure I pumped up the ISO quite a bit to get a half-decent shutter speed. Resizing helps to hide and smooth out the noise!

Sitting around at the GPO

Teens sit around on the limestone blocks on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork. That’s the Post Office in the background and the infamous Hi-B Bar to the left where you can be thrown out or verbally abused if the eccentric owner doesn’t like the look of you!
