Bucket and Spade

My son’s bucket and spade lie forgotten on Fountainstown Beach while he goes off throwing stones in the water.

Square Deal

Square Deal Interiors where we bought several items of furniture recently. Absolutely huge showrooms and nice helpful staff. Prices seemed reasonable too, even if they did take a big chunk out of my credit card.

Rain on the River

Rain falls on a river in a town in County Clare while we were stuck in a traffic jam. I used to know what town this was taken in but now it’s a mystery. It did have a very distinctive walled off area right in the middle of the river though. Anyone recognise it?

Water rushes in

Waves crash and water rushes in on the rocks at Couminole Beach in County Kerry.

Killeagh Catholic Church

The town of Killeagh in County Cork has a beautiful Catholic Church at one of main street. A neat garden surrounds the building and it’s an eye catching sight for anyone passing through the town. According to a stone embedded in the church wall, it was completed in 1792.

While researching this post I stumbled upon the community site above and then wondered if a similar site existed for Blarney, but no, sadly the main sites you’ll find associated with Blarney belong to local businesses and are commercial affairs. (And for my next project…)

Woodford Bourne & Co

The top of Patrick’s Street in Cork is dominated by Mc Donalds, taking over from Mandy’s in the Woodford Bourne & Co building.

Check out this old advert from 1910. You can still recognise the building! Much more information about that structure can be found here. I vaguely remember Mandy’s but don’t remember it before that.

A Yellow Rose

A yellow rose in my father-in-law’s garden. Even in his mid eighties he’s very active and loves tending his garden.

Keeping the Chicks Alive

2 chicks are fed by a parent just outside the window of my home office here in Blarney.

The chicks have been there all evening and I just looked out again and they’re still there. Unfortunately the neighbour’s cat, Patches, saw them too and is keeping a vigil close by. We saw the parent bird literally dive bomb the cat several times but Patches won’t be moved.

A moment before this shot was taken the first chick was fed. I have a photo of that too but I thought this was the better one.

Is it common for young birds to huddle together on a wire in the shelter of a house? It troubles me that they might be in danger or injured and can’t fly away. Anyone know?
