  • A rainbow on the horizon

    A horizontal rainbow or circumhorizontal arc seen on the horizon over the sea.

    Here is something you may not have seen before. Horizontal rainbows or “fire rainbows” are a rare phenomenon that happen more often closer to the equator than Ireland is.

    Here’s one I photographed off Ardmore, in Co Waterford. Nobody noticed it until they saw me with my camera pointed towards it!

    I was in town this afternoon and walking up Oliver Plunkett Street, came across Ryan Parsons, a very talented violinist busking on the street. A sizeable crowd gathered around behind me, enjoying the music. The gentleman in the background of this photo was evidentially enjoying the music too, waving his hand in time with the beat of the tune.

    I recorded a video of Ryan playing too. Enjoy his wonderful playing for yourself!

  • Hussey’s Folly overlooking Dingle Harbour

    Hussey’s Folly, a small two-storey castle overlooks Dingle Harbour. I couldn’t find much about it online, but I did see that it was built in 1845. It’s now in ruins, with the doorways blocked, but it’s a nice place to visit.

    Before Fungie disappeared, we went up here to look out for him a few times.

  • The Colours of Sunset

    The last week has been fairly wet, with cloudy skies, so I thought an ICM of a sunset sky would brighten up the day. Another one that was taken just outside my home. The black parts are the roofs of nearby homes.

  • Curious Cows

    Cows in a field gathered by the gate when I approached.

    Blarney is surrounded by fields, and up a country road from where I live you’ll find farm animals in the fields. It’s mostly cows, and when I approached a gate of one such field, the curious cows came over to watch this strange human on a bicycle.

  • Lodge 234

    I was surprised to see the Masonic Square and Compass logo on a weathered door in Kinsale a few weeks ago. Luckily there’s no public park next door where they can buy a plot of land to extend the building for €1 like they did in Cork City.

    CORK city councillors have voted to dispose of a section of land in Bishop Lucey Park to the Freemasons to allow for an extension of the Freemasons’ Hall on Tuckey St.

    The area of ground, approximately 53.6m², will be disposed to Craft Properties Limited – the legal entity for The Provincial Grand Lodge of Munster Freemasons – for the sum of €1, plus costs of €1,500 plus VAT.
