The green chair

Are you comfortable sir? Please sit down and the lift will descend in a moment.

A chair sits in a service lift on the sidewalk outside my hotel in San Francisco. The chair looked so out of place in the urban environment I had to shoot it!

The sun is hidden by a tall building in San Francisco while mother and daughter wait for the lights to change.

SF AWS 1909

A fire hydrant in San Francisco. Given the history of the city, there are hydrants everywhere ..

SF Baseball cap

A baseball cap on the sidewalk in San Francisco attracted my attention while out walking. I wonder who lost it?

Passenger Zone

No parking between signs .. hotel guests with big bags approaching. Handle with care!

Shot outside the hotel the out-of-towners in Automattic stayed in while in San Francisco!

Don’t forget the exhibit in Mallow I mentioned in my gallery update starts tonight. I gave it a plug on ocaoimh.ie too so hopefully we’ll see a healthy number of visitors.

Jesus Christ still loves you

A year ago I photographed this man holding the sign saying Jesus Christ Loves You in San Francisco. Amazingly he’s still in the same spot. That’s dedication for you!

Shadows on Powell St

The shadow cast by a young man waiting to cross the street forms the main subject of this unusual image. Sort of messes with your head doesn’t it?

Expired Meter

An expired meter I spotted while we waited for a table to become free in a restaurant in San Francisco a few blocks from Union Square.

Photo has been "cross processed" using the Curves tool. I created an S curve on the red and green channels, and then applied a lomo plugin for good effect!

Faces of the TechCrunch Party 2007

TechCrunch held their second annual party on Friday night and I was there with a few of the guys from Automattic. It was my first time being at a gathering like this, but we had a good time and I got a couple of shots off.

In the collage (or montage?) above you should be able to pick out Scott Beale, Kristopher Tate, Thomas Hawk and of course the Automattic guys, Matt Mullenweg, Michael Adams, Barry Abrahamson, and Raanan Bar-Cohen.

I had a great chat with Beau Lebens of Feedville who’s doing some interesting stuff with WPMU. Looking forward to seeing that. Unfortunately I don’t recall who anyone else is, but if you leave a comment here I’ll fill in the blanks!

As usual, Scott Beale had the first shots up. He must have blogged them as soon as he got home!

Update, lots more coverage on TechCrunch.com by Michael Arrington including videos and photos.

Cut the chocolate birthday cake

Yum! Yum! Alex cuts the delicious chocolate birthday cake in Herbivore, San Francisco! That crazy Matt Mullenweg fella can’t resist helping him with the cake. Come to think of it, did anyone not eat the cake? It was so nice!

California Sunset

On the way to the Automattic beach houses last night we drove along the famous road that featured in Basic Instinct. I opened the window on Toni’s car and took a few photos of the sunset. I hoped for it to happen, but I was very lucky that the sun was blocked out by the signpost.

What are we doing on day one? Robert Hoekman, Jr is talking to us about "Designing the obvious" and expanding on his talk from the first day at WordCamp. The talk is going great, and generating lots of chatter and ideas!
