Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle, as seen from the pavement outside with benches going off into the distance like a moat stopping the tourists trampling on the lawn.

My Home from Home
What do you do when you get home from holiday? Put a clamp on the wheels of your caravan! I could make a joke about cleaning the wheels of their home, but that’s an obvious one and I’m in a hurry tonight. Got a surprise birthday party to go to soon!

Tourists outside Windsor Castle
Tourists gathered outside the gates of Windsor Castle photograph each other smiling and posing for holiday photos. We parked outside the town, grabbed a bus up the road and walked around a bit. Unfortunately the castle itself was closed.
The town of Windsor is definitely worth a visit. It’s a huge tourist attraction though so better to visit during the week when the place is thronged with visitors.

Shell To Sea
The “Shell to Sea” stand in Bishop Lucey Park during the “Peace in the Park” event a few weeks ago.
Like a lot of people I’m sick and tired of the protests in Co Mayo against the pipeline Shell want to build to bring gas to an onshore facility. This story and photos of an exploded natural gas pipeline in Virginia, USA almost changed my mind. Then I realised there must be tens of thousands of natural gas pipelines and they very rarely blow up in such a spectacular fashion.
Still, does make me think twice about dismissing the protesters as a bunch of crazies.

Cobh Street Entertainer
A singer outside the Commodore Hotel in Cobh kept the crowd entertained and attracted the attention of my son Adam who wasn’t happy unless he was outside listening to him.

No Through Road
Construction work on the building site between Emmett Place and Patrick Street in Cork continues at a pace. Despite the slow down in the economy high rise cranes can still be seen on the city skyline and are more prominent than the recently opened Elysian.

The cars of Cape Clear
Cape Clear Island, or Oilean Chleire, is only 3 miles long and 1 mile wide, but it’s only 40 minutes by ferry to the mainland so it’s fairly easy to bring out vehicles. In fact, I saw many more cars on the island than I did on my last trip.
As you may have guessed by the photo above, once the cars get here, they really don’t go anywhere else, and many of them are in a bad state of repair. On a previous trip, my father and I were driven up a very steep hill above the harbour in a multicoloured VW Beetle that was literally falling apart with rust. I’ll post a photo of the hill in a few days.
There also isn’t a police force on the island. I don’t think cars here are insured or taxed and you can forget the NCT ..
Apart from the two taxi vans sitting on the quay when we arrived, the newest car was a 1999 model. The oldest was a 1986 Renault. The taxis were had 2004 reg plates and in good condition.
I’d love to how or why the van in the far background got to the Island. It looks abandoned now.
