Old Shed in Camden Fort

Camden Fort near Crosshaven in Co Cork was part of a photowalk last Sunday and we visited Spike Island on Saturday, it was great visiting such historical sites. We were so lucky with the weather as the rain stayed off and Camden Fort on Sunday was bathed in strong sunlight!

Both sites are still being developed. Camden Fort is manned by volunteers with a few people paid by FAS who helped clear 21 years of undergrowth and weeds. You should visit and talk to the volunteers as they’re so enthusiastic about the project and friendly you’ll spend quite a lot of time talking! Our trip to Spike Island was way too short and we all agreed that we didn’t have enough time to explore it fully.

More photos from the photowalk:

  4. Cobh, as seen from Spike Island

And I hope Denis posts some of his photos soon!

La Scala

La Scala

La Scala in Crosshaven is an arcade that’s been in the town for years. It probably hasn’t been called that name all that time, or owned by the same people all that time but I always remember there being an arcade there. Not sure if I’ve ever been in there though. Maybe a long time ago!

The Doneraile Photowalk is on next Sunday at 3pm. Everyone’s welcome! If you’re wondering about where to meet up, or worried that you’ll be late, leave a comment here and I’ll email you my phone number. The park is quite big and it would probably be quite easy to wander around without meeting anyone else!

Crosshaven Boats

Crosshaven Boats

In mid February we went down to Crosshaven and I took Adam and Oscar for a walk down the road past the boat yards. It was way too cold and windy though so I didn’t go too far. On the way back I looked up and this just jumped out at me!

Love how this came out.

Assumpta, 03/12/1950 – 30/12/2002

While walking along the path in Drake’s Pool and enjoying the sunset we came across this plaque in the ground next to a bench.

“You are the wind upon my face.
You inspired me with your grace.
You are the wind upon my back.
You keep telling me do not look back.
As I walk among the trees.
I can feel your gentle breeze.
Your loving smile and tender care.
I cherish and take with me everywhere

Sunset at Drake’s Pool

We took Oscar and ourselves for a walk in Drake’s Pool last Sunday. We arranged to meet Donal and Celine there.

While the girls enjoyed a leisurely walk, us guys trailed after them making photos of everything!

Drake’s Pool is just outside Crosshaven, and is named for Sir Francis Drake.

Waltzers in Crosshaven!

If a Cork person tells you they’re going to the Merries, don’t look at them strangely. They want to go to the funfair!
The Merries in Crosshaven have been there for years, and last September myself and Jacinta went on the Waltzers. It was a slow day, and early in the evening so we were the only occupants and I’d swear the attendent made it go a lot faster than normal!
It was fun for the first minute, but after that my neck got sore, and I just wanted off! We stumbled off shortly afterwards while the attendent sat down for a smoke..
