Grasshopper
A grasshopper caught climbing the outside wall of a friend’s house in Fermoy. My son Adam spotted him first and excitedly called the rest of us out to see. I then proceeded to shoot over a dozen shots of the little bug.
The Pillars of Justice
The limestone steps and pillars at the front of the Court House in Cork make for an imposing building. Never been in there though. Guess they wouldn’t be too happy with a photographer prowling around? I’ll have to bring a sketch pad.
Wide Open Spaces
The wide open space at the top of Patrick’s Street in Cork is a crossroads for traffic going along Cork’s busiest streets. It’d be a nightmare to cross without the pedestrian lights, not that stops people racing or even sauntering across in front of oncoming traffic.
No Shandon Bells from Academy Street
The bell tower of St. Anne’s Church in Shandon may well be one of the most recognisable sights in Cork but it’s no longer visible down Academy Street and as a consequence, possibly from Patrick Street either. Back in 2007 I snapped this photo of the tower and it’s well I did because the construction…
Bucket and Spade
My son’s bucket and spade lie forgotten on Fountainstown Beach while he goes off throwing stones in the water.
Square Deal
Square Deal Interiors where we bought several items of furniture recently. Absolutely huge showrooms and nice helpful staff. Prices seemed reasonable too, even if they did take a big chunk out of my credit card.
Rain on the River
Rain falls on a river in a town in County Clare while we were stuck in a traffic jam. I used to know what town this was taken in but now it’s a mystery. It did have a very distinctive walled off area right in the middle of the river though. Anyone recognise it?
Water rushes in
Waves crash and water rushes in on the rocks at Couminole Beach in County Kerry. Shot almost 2 years ago on Slea Head!
Church of the Immaculate Conception
The parish church in The Lough, Cork. Shot during a photowalk in March 2008.
Killeagh Catholic Church
The town of Killeagh in County Cork has a beautiful Catholic Church at one of main street. A neat garden surrounds the building and it’s an eye catching sight for anyone passing through the town. According to a stone embedded in the church wall, it was completed in 1792. While researching this post I stumbled…
Woodford Bourne & Co
The top of Patrick’s Street in Cork is dominated by Mc Donalds, taking over from Mandy’s in the Woodford Bourne & Co building. Check out this old advert from 1910. You can still recognise the building! Much more information about that structure can be found here. I vaguely remember Mandy’s but don’t remember it before…
Casey’s Hotel
Casey’s Hotel in Glengarriff, County Cork.
