When you come to Ireland you go looking for a Guinness don’t you? Well, if you’re in Cork, you must try local stouts, Beamish or Murphy’s. I’m not a big fan of any of them but the Cork stouts are sweeter than Guinness, and nicer IMO.

Beamish is owned by Heineken now, aren’t they? Perhaps Murphy’s, too? Nonetheless, I still enjoy my “vitamin B.”
Yes, I think so. An article I read researching this post (what? I actually research posts?) said Heineken own Murphy’s, wanted to buy Beamish, but were waiting on some competition board to rule if it was ok for the sale to go through. This might all be old news and out of date by now of course. My research didn’t go that far!
Beamish is awesome and so much tastier than guinness.
I like Murphy’s. Let’s hope they don’t fart arse around with the recipe and make it taste like Heineken….
Heineken announced today that they are to close the Beamish & Crawford brewery in March 2009.
120 jobs will be lost.
A sad day for the city.
Ricky – can’t believe it. It’s a weird coincidence I posted this photo only a few days ago and this happens. Maybe I should post a photo of the FAS offices ..

So much for enjoying my Vitamin B.
It is always the same story, isn’t it? Some giant wants to take over a small company, our competition watchdogs express some concern but still the deal is approved. I wonder what the was in it for the regulators…
In the past the main question was: is a company profitable? These days the only question is: how can the dividends to shareholders be increased. Think about it.
Heineken claim to increase competition by decreasing the number of Guinness competitors. I would have failed my exams with that type of answer but these people run a multimillion multinational…
A sad shame that Beamish is to close, the competition authority has handed away 150 jobs and mark my words the Guiness Heineken duopoly will raise prices. Enjoy Beamish at 20C cheaper draught in the pubs for the next 3 months, it won’t last. Sad shame it didn’t need to be done
