This will change everything
“This will change everything he thought”. Err, no. It won’t. Billboards like this sprang up near the Elysian in Cork in 2007 and later as construction of that building continued. Well. It didn’t change anything except that the country went into recession and the building is mostly empty even now. Some nice photos here from…
Shandon Bells from Afar
The steeple of St. Anne’s Church towers over the surrounding streets as seen from Coburg Street, Cork last night. I laboured over this photo. I could not get the shade and colour of the houses in the middle-background right for quite a while. Sometimes it was too bright, or too blue, or too dark, or…
The Bandon Road Roundabout, pre-flyover
The flyover over the Bandon Road Roundabout in Bishopstown is completed (or so I’ve read, I haven’t driven over it yet) but here’s what it looked like 2006, well before any work was done. The pedestrian walkway I took this from is long gone and the area itself looks a lot different now! Now, all…
St Patrick’s Bridge
St Patrick’s Bridge in Cork spans the River Lee at the top of St Patrick’s Street and leads on to Bridge Street on the northern bank of the river. Here it is on a particularly cloudy day a few days ago! More information on the bridge can be found here.
World War One Lee Enfield Rifle
The remains of a World War One Lee Enfield rifle found somewhere in France or Belgium. It’s heavily corroded and the wood used in it’s construction is almost completely gone. I dread to think what action it saw or what happened to it’s owner. This was on display at the military show in Cork City…

[gallery link="file" ids="8155,8156,8157,8158,8159,8160,8161,8162"] Early morning in Blarney, Co Cork. Including a tent erected in the green area in the middle of the village. Nobody tell Charles!
Blarney Post Office
Blarney Post Office through the windscreen of my car. More rain.
Public Display of Affection
St Patrick’s Street, Cork during the Street Performance World Championships yesterday. Does anyone know who this performer is? I can’t really comment on any of the performers unfortunately as I was only there for an hour with a bored six year old who had a fixation on buying an Angry Birds hat and balloon animals….
Crosshaven Evening
Yesterday evening in Crosshaven, Co Cork. It was a beautiful end of the day. Not quite as hot as other days which I was thankful for but many people out and a good atmosphere in the town. Edit: here’s the original photo!
Shaky Bridge on the Lee
The Shaky Bridge, Or Daly’s Bridge, spans the River Lee near Fitzgerald Park in Cork City.
Family Fun Day in Blarney
Today was Family Fun Day in Blarney oraganised by Gaelscoil Mhuscrai. It threatened to rain several times but besides a few drops it stayed dry and everyone had fun! Hands full with the kids
A trip into town is always complicated when you have kids with you. Shot on Emmett Place, Cork last weekend.
