Whirling around and around

Whirling around and around A merry-go-round or whatever you call it kept the kids entertained in the Peace Park last night as Santa visited courtesy of 96FM. Even the Lord Mayor of Cork turned up. He had no problems finding parking. I saw his car parked up on the broad new pavement outside the park....

St. Anne’s Church Tower

St. Anne's Church The Shandon bell tower of St. Anne's Church is one of the most recognisable sights around Cork. Here it is viewed from the end of Academy Street by Patrick's Street.

The waves at Couminole

The waves at Couminole Waves about to crash down on the nearby rocks at Couminole Beach on Slea Head, Co. Kerry. Originally this was in colour but it lacked punch. Converting it to black and white and slightly overexposing the blue channel created this dramatic scene.

Shih Tzu in flight

Shih Tzu in flight My Shih Tzu Oscar just after he picked up the ball I threw for him! Most dogs have a strong fetch instinct but Oscar's was hidden away until we discovered it earlier this year. Now he loves the phrase "where's the ball Oscar?"

Cork Film Festival

Cork Film Festival Cork Film Festival starts on the 14th of October this year and will run until the 21st. They've obviously spent quite a bit on advertising as these banners are visible all the way up Patrick Street. Still, I've never been to a film during the festival. Others take time off work and...

The Evening Echo seller

The Evening Echo seller This man has been selling the Evening Echo on Cork's Patrick's Street for years. Here's a photo of him back in August 2005!

My Happy Baby

My Happy Baby Little baby Adam passed another major milestone in his life yesterday. Last night he slept in his own room for the first time! He slept soundly until about 3am, woke and made a bit of fuss until he fell asleep again until about 6am when he was happy enough to kick about...

Charity photo exhibit in Mallow

Charity photo exhibit in Mallow The Mayor of Mallow, Cllr. Noel O'Connor at Mallow Library at the start of the Mallow Camera Club photography exhibit. Charity photo exhibit in Mallow Members of Mallow Camera Club and the public gather at the photo exhibit in the Library. Charity photo exhibit in Mallow Sean O'Riordan talks about...

Shih Tzu and the Ball

Shih Tzu and the Ball Shih Tzu dogs love to play ball! We only found this out after a dog trainer came to the house and "ruffled his fur" a bit and in the process Oscar became a lot more relaxed. Now he adores playing ball and even one mention of, "where's the ball?" and...

The groomed Shih Tzu

The groomed Shih Tzu Our pet Shih Tzu, Oscar, has been suffering under the unusual August weather. It's actually quite warm, and his long coat is more useful for colder weather. So this morning we had him groomed and doesn't he look cute?

Is it a bird, is it a plane, no! It’s the sky!

Is it a bird, is it a plane, no! It's the sky! I have no idea what they were looking at because there wasn't anything flying overhead. Better than waiting for the St. Patrick's Day Parade to start I suppose! Taken on Paddy's Day this year on Patrick's Street, or Panna as it's locally known.

Shih Tzu playing ball on the beach

Shih Tzu playing ball on the beach Our pet Shih Tzu, Oscar with a tennis ball in his mouth on Garrettstown Beach a few weeks before Adam was born last April. He loves running after the ball, but the poor little doggy is a bit lame right now. We took him to the vet who...
