The Anarchist Postman

Graffiti of a postman, or could be a police officer on a wall off South Main Street in Cork.

This was taken several months ago but was still there last time I looked! Sorry for the large file size. Jpeg compression doesn’t like random pixels.

Daffodils in the sky

Lovely bright daffodils to brighten up your gloomy November Monday morning!

This was taken way back on March 18th this year on the same day I shot these daffodils! The image has been sitting in my WIP folder for months but after my gimp lomo post I decided to post this in a larger format.

Post processing: Auto-levels, gimp lomo and save. Resized version has been sharpened and I could have done more with the dodge and burn tool to bring out the detail in the flowers but this will have to do.

Paparazzi wait for Flatley at hospital

Film crews and photographers wait outside Cork University Maternity Hospital yesterday for a shot of Michael Flatley. His wife Niamh gave birth to a bouncing baby boy that morning in the hospital. Apparently Flatley gave a 5 figure donation to the hospital. Nurses I spoke to wondered where it went..

OK, maybe the people pictured are TV3, RTE news and a couple of photographers for the local paper but it’s not often one sees them about and in one place. I was busy helping Jacinta and Adam into the car and we weren’t about to stop and hang about. I told the reporters I had no comments to make except that Adam was in great form and that he and his mom were coming home.

I saw Michael Flatley on TV later and he was beaming! 🙂

Watching the fish underwater in Lanzarote

A young boy watches fish swim past on a boat off the coast of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. The boat’s staff threw food overboard for the fish while the passengers went below decks to watch from the observation windows. As it was the start of the season in May, the boat was nowhere near full and everyone got a good look at the marine life swimming past.

This is the first picture I’ve posted from our honeymoon in Lanzarote last year. I took so many photos it’s daunting to look through them and pick out the ones I want to publish.

The Importance of Being Earnest

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I decided to take in a bit of culture and go see “The Importance of Being Earnest” performed by Chattyboo Productions at Cork Arts Theatre. Frank Prendergast has a leading role in the play and he blogged about it a few days ago, but I didn’t know anything about Oscar Wilde. I expected a stuffy Victorian period drama along the lines of many popular movies I’ve seen. Little did I know the comedic gem that was lying in wait.

I won’t give anything away about the story, except to say that it has a perfect mix of love, humour, twists and scoundrels. We spent the whole time either laughing or engrossed in the twists and characters of the plot.

Unfortunately the play finishes on Saturday so you only have a few more days to enjoy this wonderful experience! Check out Frank’s post for an audio clip, and go book your tickets by ringing the Cork Arts Theatre at 021-4505624.

Lots more photos after the jump…

Caution Children

A sign at the entrance to my estate warns motorists to watch out for children playing on the street.

Just to prove that you don’t need a big digital SLR to take interesting photos, this was taken with my Panasonic FZ5. I saw the great cloudscape in the sky and illuminated the sign with the onboard flash.

Wet Wellow Web

Early in the morning dew coats everything and water droplets on spider webs glisten in the rising sun.

I’m not sure where this was taken, it was probably somewhere in Blarney but it was taken with my Panasonic FZ5 last September and I only copied it off a few days ago!

Hungry Caterpillar

A caterpillar munches on flowers by the bird sanctuary in Blarney, Co. Cork a few weeks ago.
No SF photos today, need to recharge my batteries!

Update on 2015-08-11 – I re-edited this photo in Lightroom and uploaded a larger version! You can find the original photo here!

Three Daisies

Daisy Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I’m half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won’t be a stylish marriage,
I can’t afford a carriage,
But you’ll look sweet on the seat
Of a bicycle built for two!

Ladybird’s spots

Oh so high! When you’re tiny a few inches off the ground can appear like a huge drop to you.

The ladybird scurried away after this shot to get some peace and quiet from the camera toting freak in the garden! 🙂

Lady in the grass

A ladybird in the grass of my back garden.

Taken with my Panasonic FZ5. Almost run out of pre-prepared images. I’ll need to fire up the GIMP this weekend.
