Spencer Tunick photoshoot in Blarney Co. Cork, Ireland

As luck would have it, one of the more famous or perhaps notorious photographers of our time, Spencer Tunick, is shooting in Blarney, where I live, tomorrow morning.

Update on Jun 8th, 2009 – I’ve justed posted a small gallery of Spencer Tunick photos as his website is down.

It’s no great secret now, even Ray D’Arcy revealed the location on his radio programme this morning. He’ll be revealing a lot more in a few hours time.. Anyway, it all happens very early in the morning, at a time when most sensible people will be snuggled up in bed and that probably includes me. If I do feel the urge to visit Blarney Castle at dawn I’m sure all I’ll photograph will be groups of dazed and tired volunteers stumbling from buses, full clothed. I have no desire to shoot any naked skin.

Spencer – if you’re reading this, I’d love to go to shoot a portrait of yourself, and perhaps grab an autograph!

18,000 people nude in public

This is what 18,000 naked people look like. This is old news to some, but I missed it at the time. How did they manage to organise so many people so well? Photographer Spencer Tunick created the images in Mexico City. His next project is sometime this month in Amsterdam. Anyone going or gone to it?

Fair dues to him getting those shots. I find it’s hard enough to shoot ordinary group shots, without having to communicate with such a large crowd! Mad stuff altogether! His Naked States DVD is out too. I saw this on tv and it’s worth watching to see Spencer in action.

The Photocritic wants your glamour and nude photos

The Photo Critic is looking for nude and glamour shots to critique next week.

Would you be interested in having your risque photos reviewed / critiqued? I can’t offer payment, but if I use one of more of your photos, I’ll add a link to your blog, web site or Flickr stream, like I did for the previous photo critiques I did…

He’s quite serious, here’s a previous critique and he has written an introduction to nude photography. I wouldn’t know where to start if asked to to critique a nude. Shooting portraits is hard enough but nude is much harder by all accounts; clothes hide blemishes, spots and other imperfections. The lighting is very important as a shadow in the wrong place can ruin the image. The introduction above goes some way to explaining the problems associated with the format so you can expect some good advice if you submit photos.

Artistic Nude or Pornography?

Is this photo (Edit: link is gone, domain expired!) pornography or an artistic nude? I think it’s an artistic photo of a nude but some people scream and shout whenever even a bit of leg or shoulder is shown.

Thankfully 400 people emailed him and agreed that it was not pornography. Check out the description of the second photo linked above. Jessyel definitely is crazy, but also a great photographer! The nude bookmark on photoblogs.org has more photoblogs on the same subject.

It goes without saying, that the photos above may not be suitable for a work environment. You have been warned. Artistic endevour has very little place in a litigious environment.

Wanted: photographer to shoot nude photoshoot

This thread on boards.ie ran a bit out of control. Mention the words “naked” and “girl” in the same sentence and you’re bound to have a whole bunch of testoserone filled males jumping in to offer their advice and opinions.

Anyway, someone is looking for a photographer to do her first “Suicide Girls” shoot. Read the thread if you’re in the Dublin area and are interested. Out of the replies so far, there’s perhaps 3 on-topic messages.

While on the topic of Irish forums, if you’re looking for another one, there’s also Photography Ireland.net which is run by Mark in Bandon. It hasn’t been going very long but it’s already very active and worth a look!

From that thread, this video documentary about the life of a fashion photographer cracked me up!
