Pedestrian Zone
Many of the side streets off St. Patrick’s Street in Cork are now pedestrian zones. In fact, Oliver Plunkett Street is closed off to traffic on Saturdays too which is great for shoppers.

Anyway, I can’t remember where I took this. It could be one of the side streets off St. Patrick’s Street, but that’s about as vague as “somewhere in Cork” to be honest.

Bloggable Flickr Slideshow
Here’s a neat way of embedding Flickr’s slideshow feature in your own blog. flickrSLiDR asks you for a set in your Flickr stream and then gives you some html code to paste into your blog post.
He’s cheating a small bit though. He’s using Flickr’s own slideshow application and simply passing the right parameters to it. Take a look at the code at the end of this post to see for yourself!

Oops. And just after publishing this post I realise that it’s a bad thing to post a Flash application that loads lots of photos so you have to click into this post to see the slideshows. They won’t show when in archive mode. Phew.
Guinness
Guinness, world famous stout brewed in Dublin, Ireland. It’s also the tipple every tourist to the country samples but I prefer beer myself! 🙂

On dad’s shoulders
A boy grins with delight after the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Cork this year. And why wouldn’t he? He’s sitting tall over everyone else!
Larry Tompkins bar is in the background. It was packed with the day’s crowd.

Pathway to Gallarus
If you visit the Dingle Peninsula you must visit the Gallarus Oratory. It’s an early Christian church, possibly built in the 6th century. There is a visitor centre but don’t be fooled into paying the entrance fee. The building is a national monument and the public have a right to see it. Your entrance fee does pay for a crummy video in a dark and musty room but to be honest it’s not worth it! Continue up the road and you’ll find a path leading directly to the church.
Your taxes pay for the upkeep of the building so why pay another charge to see it?

Irish photographer wounded in Afghanistan
Irish freelance photographer John McHugh has been wounded in a mortar attack while embedded with US troops in Afghanistan.
The Irish Photographers Website reports,
An Irish freelance photographer was recovering in hospital today after being wounded during fighting in Afghanistan. John McHugh had been in the country for the New York Times embedded with US troops in Kunar province in the east of the country. It is understood he was with US forces when they came under mortar fire on Sunday evening. He suffered shrapnel wounds to his body and was airlifted to Baghran air base for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Several US troops were also injured in the attack.

Cameras get easier to use all the time, even a pig could use them! Pearls Before Swine on May 8th featured this comic strip.
Not quite in the same league as What The Duck for photographers but a very funny comic for everyone else! 🙂
EI-128 ready to fly
Here’s another shot of EI-128. Following my last shot I moved to the other side of the glider to capture some of the beach and hills behind.
This was originally shot at an angle to get as much vertical space in but I rotated the image and filled in the sand and background as well as I was able. Sand is usually quite easy to fill in because it’s so uniform but there was a gradient of shade according to how damp it was that made things harder.
