The Homes of Kinsale

The homes and businesses of Kinsale seen from the hill opposite.

If you’ve been to Kinsale you’ll be familiar with the centre of town but behind those businesses are the homes of local residents, stretching up towards the top of the hill.

It’s a lovely town, full of history and of course great food, so well worth a visit. 🙂

The Hills off Inch Beach

Far away hills lit up by the setting sun with ephemeral waves lapping the shore

Off Inch Beach in Co Kerry, in August 2015. A lovely sunset casts a glow on the hills opposite. A slow, long exposure blends the waves together.

Mommy Cat, the oldest of our cats passed away yesterday at somewhere around the age of 17. We’re not sure, because she adopted us around 15 years ago. We are sure that she was roaming the estate for some time before that.

She had lovely kittens, but only one is left now, Hoppy, who is in the centre of the image here.

A Swallow Murmuration

A murmuration of swallows flies past a pole.

Swallows flew back and forth in a group, known as a murmuration. This was a small one but impressive still!

Flying over fields

A swallow flies past fields and sheep, free in the air.

Another one of a swallow flying near Ballycroneen Beach recently. You’ll recognise the field in the background from a recent photo!

Swallows fly fast!

Two swallows in the air, one out of focus above a rural landscape with a house in the background and some poles.

Swallows fly really fast and they’re difficult to photograph in flight, so when I managed to catch this one in flight I had to share both.

As I was advised by Rory, I didn’t zoom in which made it easier to catch them crossing the scene. On my Sony camera I set it to wide focus and I must have tracking enabled somewhere in the settings because it did a remarkable job of tracking the bird, showing green focus spots moving quickly across the screen!

This is a heavily cropped image, and it has been cleaned up in Topaz Photo AI.

Emma Lou in Ballycotton

Some of the boats in Ballycotton a few weeks ago when Blarney Photography Club visited. A trawler with the name Emma Lou was in the foreground, but also visible were smaller boats, and the local search and rescue boat that had just arrived.

The Crow and the Swallow

A crow stands on top of a pole as a swallow flies past him. Those swallows are really hard to photograph, so I zoomed in on the top of the pole and just watched the pole, without looking through the camera. When I saw a swallow fly close, I hit the shutter button hoping burst mode would take help me catch it in flight!
