THAT’S US BTW! YOU ARE EU

The bus shelter is adorned with a poster promoting a message of “Freedom, Peace & Energy Independence. YOU ARE EUROPE”, featuring a group of youthful individuals standing beside the text “YOU ARE EU”. This poster can be spotted throughout the EU, and I even noticed a few on the Europe subreddit last week.

Meanwhile, an advertisement displayed on the bus parked at the stop bears the message “THAT’S US BTW!” with an arrow pointing downwards towards the end of a URL. However, I like to think the arrow is pointing towards the individuals featured in the EU poster.

These types of advertisements and posters serve as a reminder of the interconnectedness of people across the EU, and the importance of promoting unity and solidarity among diverse communities. The bus itself is a common mode of transportation throughout many European cities, offering a convenient and efficient way to traverse the bustling streets and vibrant neighborhoods of these dynamic urban centers.

My 2020 Spy

Far back in time, to the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, a film called My Spy was due to appear in cinemas on March 13th, 2020.

Unfortunately, the country went into lockdown on March 27th. This photo was taken in May that year. Adverts hadn’t been changed in most places. Hoardings still had the same slogan for months, buses were the same. The banners on the Cork Opera House looked the worse for wear. A surreal time.

Cork 2005

Older visitors will recognise this poster if they were around Cork in 2005 when the city was “European Capital of Culture”.

This poster was draped over the city library, and I was very lucky to capture a tour bus as it drove past on a fine June day, exactly 17 years ago today.

Queue for the bus on St. Patrick’s Quay

The bus stops on St. Patrick’s Quay are being moved to various locations around the city disrupting the future travel arrangements of people who use them.

You used to be able to get a bus from west Cork to the city, walk to the next bus stop and hop on a bus to Dublin but now they’ll be in separate parts of the city.

Not exactly encouraging for people with mobility issues.

The fugitive can’t run fast enough!

The 96FM Fugitive is a character listeners of Cork radio station 96FM watch out for as DJs on the radio station give out clues as to his whereabouts. Find him and you’ll win a cash prize!

A few weeks ago they told people he was in Blarney and I was asked at least three times if I was the fugitive. OK, I hadn’t shaved that morning yet but did I really look that suspicious?

An Bhlarna

The sign points the way to Blarney or Blarna in Irish. If you’re interested, that’s pronounced “blawrnah”

“Secrets”, an adult store, occupies the building at the centre of this photo.
