Marina City
Marina City in Chicago is made up of two 65 storey towers with a distinctive circular shape. I just love the look of them actually. They’re right on the river but this shot is taken from the L, probably on the Brown line after leaving Kimball which will be tomorrow’s photo! As usual the Wikipedia…
Pobal ar Aire
Pobal ar Aire. Community on Alert. This is (was?) a scheme designed to help neighbourhoods help themselves by volunteering to keep an eye out for trouble makers or lawlessness. The local police are then informed. It seems to work well, these signs are dotted all around the country, but in Bantry it looks like they’re…
The shop is closed Today
A corner shop in the English Market has a simple but effective way of shutting up shop for the day. Put a broom stick across the entrance! The English Market is completely roofed over and locked tight at night so I guess traders feel reasonably safe with minimal security precautions. That’s what’s wonderful about the…
Let’s celebrate with a few drinks! Hic!
Both Phil and Geraldine listed this blog in their “Arte y Pico” award list which gave me a warm glow because (other than the River Lee photos earlier in the week) comments have been far and few between here for quite a while. Unfortunately I’m going to break the chain and not link to the…
The river in black and white
The River Lee in Cork shot from the Nano Nagle Bridge (erected in 1985 to commemorate Cork’s 800th birthday). Far off in the distance is Holy Trinity Church as well as Parliament Bridge. That ugly building on the right is where the IDA have their offices. What an eye sore. Another version of this shot…
Trolleys
Trolleys outside Quinnsworth Tesco in Douglas last weekend. There’s such manic building going on in Douglas right now it’s a nightmare for any driver trying to get around the place. Hopefully it won’t last too much longer but they seemed to be digging up the carpark there for ages. Now it’s on to the road…
Railway Tunnel
A tunnel under the railway line between Cork and Mallow that eventually ends up in “the big smoke”, Dublin (Only ever heard Dublin people refer to Dublin by that name..) I believe the road heads to Whitechurch where we’re heading tomorrow for a meal with some Polish friends. There are great winding roads off the…
High Street, Bantry
High Street in Bantry, Co. Cork is one of the main streets in the town. It was a gorgeous day when I walked around there and shot this high contrast photo on one of it’s corners.
Musical Sunglasses
A brass band played in front of Cork City Library today and I made this shot while waiting with Phil and his brother Christopher for Damien to appear. We didn’t make it to Robodock in the end. I was busy and exhausted with a sick baby all morning and I think I’m lucky I managed…
zero zero zero four
Disused and ancient petrol pump in McCarthy’s Garage, Schull. This is the third, and final image from this particular garage. If I could have gotten inside I’d have a lot more to show. There’s an old garage a few miles from here in the middle of nowhere. They used to handle Japanese imports and sell…
The goold old days of cheap fuel
The price of fuel keeps going up and up but the price increases arrived too late for McCarthy’s Garage in Schull where I made this photo of an ancient petrol pump. The detail on the full size image is wonderful, but I’m happy enough with this web version too. Links: The Flickr Blog recently featured…
McCarthy’s Garage, Schull
An old abandoned garage in Schull, Co. Cork caught my eye a few months ago. It’s in stark contrast to the prosperity of the town. Plenty of opportunities for photos and I’ll be posting a few more shots in the coming days!
