La le Phadraig ar Sraid Phadraig

La le Phadraig ar Sraid Phadraig Children look out of an upstairs window in Merchants Quay shopping centre. When I took this shot I didn’t even see them! I was concentrating on the kids in the foreground with their flags. I think they frame the street sign rather nicely and ties in with the name of the day too. Check out some great photos of Inchigeela from the 1960’s on textlad’s set. Thanks Katie, they’re wonderful! This reminds me of someone at Mallow Camera Club who showed a number of slides he had bought or got off a priest who had served on a mission in South America. The images… Read More

Old farm building in ruins

Old farm building in ruins Out in the wilds of Co Cork, to the north of Bantry I found an old deserted farm. The house looked like it had been empty for some time and some of the out buildings were in worse repair. Don’t forget the photowalk on Sunday!

O’Keeffe Lounge and Bar

O’Keeffe Lounge and Bar I happened upon the O’Keeffe Lounge and Bar while wandering around Bantry last Sunday morning. Given the name of the establishment I just had to take a shot didn’t I? Note the “Welcome to the pint depot” quotation? Congratulations to Gingerpixel who won Best Photoblog at last night’s Irish Blog Awards. Ryan so deserves a special mention for doing the photography on the night, yet again! And of course, a big thank you to Damien for getting the ball rolling and organising the whole thing.

Horgans of Blarney

Horgans of Blarney The Irish flag flies outside Horgans of Blarney, a souvenir shop in the village. Despite the fact that it’s between the butcher’s and a pub, I’ve never been in there. I doubt most locals have been. Still, nice to see the flags waving!

Carroll’s Quay Apartments

Carroll’s Quay Apartments This is the apartment block that sprang up opposite the car park, from which I took this photo. The building itself is a dull grey monstrosity. Large windows look out on the street, hardly offering any privacy for residents. Tiny balconies sit outside some of the windows.
