The road to Cork
Looking up at the old Methodist church on the Cork side of Cobh I liked how the sign looked.
Eiffel Tower Reflection in Grand Palais Éphémère
So many people gathered to watch the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but if they looked behind them, they’d see this magnificent reflection of the Tower. The Grand Palais Éphémère was empty and dark when I was there, so it reflected perfectly the Eiffel Tower in its windows. I have to admit, the last time I…
Have you stopped growing?
Graffiti on the hoarding around the derelict site on Sullivan’s Quay asks the profound questions. “Have you stopped growing?”
Doorways through a tunnel
I looked through a gate and saw a tunnel. Doors at the end were lit up in a courtyard. Barely noticed on the main street in Cobh.
The homes of Corporation Buildings
Nestled in a cul-de-sac in the middle of Cork City lies this quiet street. It’s not easy to get to, being down a narrow side street, or through a pedestrian tunnel between buildings. I’ve only walked past it a few times, and I’ve posted photos of the chimneys on these houses a few times here.
The sun on Cobh Cathedral
The cathedral in Cobh is really impressive. It’s set on a hill overlooking the town, so when I saw the rays of the setting sun light up the front of the building, I had to record the moment in a photo.
The ruins of Heartbreak Pier in Cobh
The remains of the pier where people boarded boats to take them to the Titanic and other ships. 123 people left Cobh here to board the Titanic that was moored off Roche’s Point, at the mouth of the harbour. In March 2018, plans were approved for an observation walkway and ticket kiosk, but thankfully they…
Not Going Anywhere
That container isn’t going anywhere fast. Yeah, weird subject for a photo but it was to the side of a pub. I’ve seen those containers used to carry glass bottles around but this one is past that now.
Mind is like a garden
The murals and graffiti on the hoarding on Sullivan’s Quay, Cork changes all the time and the evening I shot this it bore the text, “Mind is like a garden”. You can see a mural in the background that I posted yesterday, and two women walking past.
Fiery Red Hair
The fiery, red hair of the mural on Sullivan’s Quay contrasts with the blue and dark background of the picture. I like the “no parking” sign, even if it’s distracting. I like the way the shadow of the pole and sign lies on the wall, duplicating the solid in the 2D world of the wall.
A Sunset ICM
The colours of a sunset captured in the sweep of an ICM photo. Dark to bright orange and a bit of dark at the bottom where the roof of a house was. I wish Adobe would use their AI to do an automated spot healing tool. My sensor needs cleaning and there were lots of…
The source of inspiration
Sometimes it’s the simple things that inspire us, like a banana. And a yellow roadside bollard in the distance.
