The Mysterious Woman with Fiery Locks

The mural on Sullivans Quay, Cork, is an eye-catching image of a woman with fiery red hair. It was painted in October 2022 by Belgian painter, Kitsune Jolene.

You can read more about the mural here.

That after sun glow

I went to the reservoir in Inniscarra yesterday evening to capture the sunset. It had been a glorious day and I saw there would be a smattering of cloud at sunset, which might make for a dramatic picture.

As it happened, there was cloud, but it was mostly at the horizon in a thick, impenetrable bank. The sun set several minutes too early, with barely a glimmer of yellow, but twenty minutes later I was treated to a spectacular display of colour.

AFAIK, it’s caused by the sun shining through the atmosphere at the underside of high altitude clouds on the horizon. If you use the mobile app, Clear Outside, look for high altitude cloud. If there’s a lot of it, and not much low cloud, you’ll probably have a nice sunset. 🙂

Eiffel Tower Reflection in Grand Palais Éphémère

So many people gathered to watch the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but if they looked behind them, they’d see this magnificent reflection of the Tower.

The Grand Palais Éphémère was empty and dark when I was there, so it reflected perfectly the Eiffel Tower in its windows.

I have to admit, the last time I was in Paris, some 23 years ago, I don’t remember the Grand Palais Éphémère being there at all, but back then I didn’t have the equipment or skill to take a photo like this anyway, and never thought to visit the Eiffel Tower in the evening! It wasn’t in the guide book!

The homes of Corporation Buildings

Nestled in a cul-de-sac in the middle of Cork City lies this quiet street. It’s not easy to get to, being down a narrow side street, or through a pedestrian tunnel between buildings. I’ve only walked past it a few times, and I’ve posted photos of the chimneys on these houses a few times here.

The sun on Cobh Cathedral

The cathedral in Cobh is really impressive. It’s set on a hill overlooking the town, so when I saw the rays of the setting sun light up the front of the building, I had to record the moment in a photo.

The ruins of Heartbreak Pier in Cobh

The remains of the pier where people boarded boats to take them to the Titanic and other ships. 123 people left Cobh here to board the Titanic that was moored off Roche’s Point, at the mouth of the harbour.

In March 2018, plans were approved for an observation walkway and ticket kiosk, but thankfully they were rejected in April 2019.

Not Going Anywhere

That container isn’t going anywhere fast. Yeah, weird subject for a photo but it was to the side of a pub. I’ve seen those containers used to carry glass bottles around but this one is past that now.
