Youghal, last April. Coca Cola sells happiness while Tesco tries to sell bargains.
PS. I just posted a gallery of photos from the IBA 09 photowalk last February.

“O’Briens’ HQ placed in examinership” according to this news report yesterday. This is their fairly recently opened (and more recently closed) “sandwich bar” on Oliver Plunkett Street here in Cork.
Loved their Triple Decker, even if it was a little pricey. Hope the company survives.

The big wheel, as seen from The Atlantic Pond outside Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork.
Sort of fitting that I post a photo of a fairground ride on the day that Michael Jackson is laid to rest.
BTW – there are still places on the Cork photowalk on the 18th. It’s less than 2 weeks now! Anyone have any suggestions about where to go afterwards? Old Oak perhaps? Would they be serving any sort of food around 4pm? It’ll be hard to find a restaurant that could fit up to 50 of us and we’d be stuck sitting down at a table, not mingling and chatting.
I know, we pop into Burger King first eh? 🙂

I’m trying out the preview of Bibble 5 Pro at the moment. Great DAM features, although it is starting to slow down after importing about 90,000 images and it’s reading from an external USB 2.0 drive.

The huge bulk of R&H Hall can be seen for miles around, as telecoms companies noticed too when they planted their dishes and aerials on top of the building. It’s a prominent building in Cork Docklands, and surprisingly, I’ve only posted photos of it once before, when it was on fire 3 years ago.
I have to head down to the Docklands at some stage and photograph it again, apparently there are plans to redevelop it although I’m sure they’re up in the air given “the current financial climate” as they say.

So, start off in the College of Hairdressing to tighten up that stylish hair of yours, then off to the “Hi B” for a pint (but turn your mobile phone off!) and then downstairs to Minihan’s Pharmacy for the Alkazelser.
Actually, I don’t like the Hi B. Any pub owner who verbally attacks his customers is a pub I don’t want to frequent. Lovely people in the pharmacy though.

Samskip Pioneer, a container ship, docked in Cork last weekend. We were down by the Marina in Blackrock on a blistering hot Saturday. While us Irish sat in the shade, Spanish students sat out in the 3pm sun, some wearing long sleeve tshirts! I know, I know, they’re used to the heat but the mind still boggles. I’m useless if the temperature goes above 25C.
Anyway, I went searching and found aprs.fi where you can track the radio transmissions from shipping and found this map showing the location of Samskip Pioneer last Saturday. Login as “V2BT5”, the callsign of the ship. Yes, it’s in Cork Harbour!
The lines might be wrong but then they’re as the crow flies and a big ship doesn’t fly.
What do you think of the border? I adjusted the image in Bibblepro using it’s lens guide which created the border. Normally I’d resize it out but this time I liked the effect.
