    Patrick Street Lights

Car lights become abstract lasers of light along the main street of Cork City.

In unrelated news, this morning I had to go to the hospital because something got stuck underneath the eyelid of my left eye yesterday. I could feel it there, my eye was weeping, it was sore and annoying. Thankfully I got to see a doctor after only a wait of an hour or two. He quickly removed the foreign material and sent me packing with a prescription for eye drops which I have to take for 5 days. Yes, I took a camera, and got a great snap of an older gentleman at the local shopping center which I must post tomorrow when I have time. Now to catch up on work..

  • Waves Crashing

    Waves Crashing

It’s very difficult to stop waves. You’ll need a fast shutter speed. If you don’t have a fast lens then stopping down a notch or third, or increasing the ISO will help too.
This image was originally quite bland with washed out waves and dark rocks but a little dodging and burning with a soft layer worked wonders!

This was taken in Dunworley, Co. Cork yesterday.

    Cork Boi!

This young lad came running straight at me on Patrick’s Street with a big grin on his face with his mother following breathlessly after him!
I was with John and Ryan at the time. John came all the way down from Galway, the weather was bad but I’m glad we got out to take a few shots of the city!

Shot this one by holding a magnifying glass up above a bar of Fry’s Chocolate. I will be enjoying said bar of chocolate at lunch. Yum.

    • Huge Pixel Poster – via Digg where there are more comments about this sort of thing. “Pixel Art is form of digital art, created on the computer through the use of raster graphics software, where images are edited on the pixel level. Graphics in most old computer and video games or even in Game Boy games are considered pixel art.”
    • How to dodge & burn like a pro? – I use the soft light layer approach myself.
    • Stripping Raw Naked – interview with the Apple Aperture product manager, Joe Schorr. Of course he’d tell you that it’s aimed at professionals! Meanwhile, Paul says that Aperture will not pose a challenge to Photoshop as it’s missing too many features. I’m sticking with the GIMP for the time being.
    • Lumilux – nice photoblog, I really like his “shape” photos. Big expanses of single colours broken up by one or two objects.
    • Has everything already had its picture taken? No, but does it matter? To the Lazy Photographer yes, “The idea that you don’t need to take photographs anymore because someone will take the picture for you and put it on flickr.”

    • Shooting Great Pictures of the Fall Foliage – look for detail, look for light. The colours of the trees around now are amazing!
    • How to Get Traffic to Your Photoblog – a lot of the advice applies to regular blogs and websites too!
    • Ideal ISO setting for the 20D? – ISO200 was suggested by numerous posters to this forum but it’s not as simple as that…
