• A Kitten’s Stare

This little kitten followed us up a cobblestone path in Istanbul and was completely friendly, looking for cuddles and being the most adorable cat ever.

  • The Boss Cat

This cat is your boss. You do what he says. Food? Jump to it! Rubs and cuddles? Well, get in there! All hail our feline leader!

  • Just saw a dog

Moments before, a large dog walked past this cat, sniffing the ground, walking around and completely uninterested in the cats lazing around in this graveyard in Istanbul.

  • A cat family in a box

There’s one thing I loved about Istanbul, and that was all the cats. Some streets had many cats, some had none. Others had a cat wandering across the road, near a dog sprawled out in the sun, asleep. It was lovely seeing all the animals.

This feline family was photographed on the wall of the graveyard near Eyüp Sultan Mosque in the city. There were loads more about too!

  • A Modern Wedding Moment

A bride examines her photos as the groom looks off into space and the photographer checks his messages.

A random tourist is caught in the frame, looking off in the distance. I don’t think he had anything to do with the wedding.

  • The Istanbul Skyline

This is part of the Asian side of Istanbul in Turkey. My first time in Asia too, even if I only ventured a few kilometres in!

Our guide said they’re trying to encourage more people to live on this side of the city, but from what I could see, it stretched on almost to distant hills and I wondered how big a city could be.

Cats? I’ve loads of cat photos. I think they’ll need their own “Cats of Istanbul” tag on here!

  • Scooter Delivery Through Historic Streets

We were walking up a narrow street near the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul when I heard a bell of a scooter ring out. The crowds parted and a young man on a scooter with a foot on heavy looking bags zipped past at speed!

I can’t imagine that was a smooth ride on those cobbles…

  • Under a Turkish Sky

We visited the Çamlıca Tepesi yl (Çamlıca Hill) in Istanbul last week. It’s a hill on the eastern side of the city. There is a huge Turkish flag flying from a massively tall flagpole, and you can see out over the Asian side of the city from the nearby park. The city just seems to go on and on.

Thanks, Peter, for showing me the yellow lines on the ground make for good leading lines. I’d originally shot this much closer to the taxi.

See where I took this photo on Google Maps here.

  • A Splash of Colour

This is the sort of contrasts you’ll see in Cork City during the Jazz weekend. Loads of people dressed to go out for the night, surrounded by shoppers and families dressed for a late October day.

The music on the street was great!

  • The water under our feet

This image shows a similar scene with more focus on a corner building housing a McDonald's restaurant. A crowd of people is gathered outside, and the construction zone is in the foreground with exposed pipes and materials. The building has a sign reading "Woodford, Bourne & Co." above the McDonald's.
In this image, there are several construction vehicles, including an excavator, working on the site. The area is fenced off, and there are various pipes and construction materials scattered around. Traffic is visible in the background, with cars lined up along the street.

Some people were surprised to find there was a large covered over tunnel below Grand Parade when the Cork Main Drainage Scheme dug up the road near Daunt Square in 2005. The street used to be part of the river, so I guess the water had to go somewhere, but it also highlights just how vulnerable the city is to high tides and climate change.

  • Missing Buildings in Blackpool

The image shows a busy parking lot filled with numerous cars parked in organized rows. The cars vary in color and type, with some red, silver, and dark-colored vehicles visible. In the background, there is a construction site with machinery and equipment, as well as some residential buildings. The parking spaces are marked with white lines, and there are a few people walking near the vehicles. The scene appears to be taken from an elevated position, providing a wide view of the area.

  • Arco de la Victoria and lightstreaks

A large triumphal arch illuminated at night. The structure features classical architectural elements, with a prominent archway and decorative sculptures on top, including a chariot with horses. The lighting highlights the details of the arch, and there are light trails from passing vehicles on the road in front of it. Trees are visible on the sides, framing the monument.

Many, many years ago, I photographed the Arco de la Victoria (Victory Arch) in Madrid. I was quite happy to have the lights of passing traffic in the photo too!
