A trip to Valentia Island is not complete without a visit to the lighthouse on Cromwell Point. The lighthouse is still used to guide vessels through the northern entrance of Valentia Harbour past Harbour Rock.
There’s a guided tour of the lighthouse including of course a run down of the history of the area, and afterwards a nice cafe where you can have a refreshing cup of tea and a cake.

Flowers and candles on the ground on St. Patrick’s Street, Cork after a vigil in memory of Ashling Murphy, a 23 year old woman who was murdered on January 12th this year while out jogging in the middle of the afternoon.
Violence against women is still happening. I don’t think it will ever stop. Fergus Finlay wrote an excellent essay saying, “I have turned a blind eye to cheap, vulgar sexism — it is all men”.

Way back in 2005 Carroll’s Quay in Cork looked quite different. The apartment block that sits there now was only half finished. The block behind it was nearing completion and what used to be a medical office was exposed to the elements when builders demolished half of that building.
Take a look at it in on Google Maps.
