Guinness

Guinness, world famous stout brewed in Dublin, Ireland. It’s also the tipple every tourist to the country samples but I prefer beer myself! 🙂

This is a sign on a pub on Bridge Street. It’s the one on the corner near Vibes and Scribes. What’s it called?

On dad’s shoulders

A boy grins with delight after the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Cork this year. And why wouldn’t he? He’s sitting tall over everyone else!
Larry Tompkins bar is in the background. It was packed with the day’s crowd.

PS. The May issue of Digital Journalist has been out for a few days. I’m only now getting to look at it. Maybe. Adam is crying in the background. afk again!

Heatons Awaken Your Senses

I jumped at the chance to make this photo when I saw the colour of the Heatons bag and the Super Valu advert on the bus shelter. Only later did I notice just how well the red or wine colours match!
Is there a subtle marketing ploy at play here?

Barratts on Patrick’s Street

A young man enjoying the sun on a warm September afternoon on Cork’s main thoroughfare, St. Patrick’s Street, or Panna as it’s sometimes known locally. That’s probably an iPod he’s listening to isn’t it?

Barratts shoe shop is in the background. The side of that shop is visible in Walk This Way.

PS. Haydn has blogged about the new gallery in West Cork he’s opening. I’ll be exhibiting there, as long as I can find time to get a few images printed and framed. Haydn says Ryan is contributing too which I didn’t know! Ryan – must talk to you about printing, framing and sizes! Conor picked up on it too. Harbour View is just down the road for him so I shall expect to see you there on the 31st!

JCB on the street

A JCB helps to dig up the Grand Parade in Cork. This was shot last September and like the previous couple of shots, this street is completely different now. It’s looking well, although the fancy stonework is begining to lose it’s shine. The chewing gum is sticking, and the fumes of a living city blacken and dirty the white and red stone of the surface.

Still, it looked nice when it was completed. They’re just finishing off bits of the Grand Parade now so it’s interesting to see the difference between the new surface and the older.

Strolling on the Grand Parade

If that couple were to walk along the Grand Parade now they’d be in the middle of a busy street but back in August last year it was still a building site.

Wondering what Cork looked like over 20 years ago? Take a look at these photos!

Running along Grand Parade

Just outside the Peace Park on Grand Parade in Cork an exuberant teenager went running towards me and I was lucky enough to grab this shot before they ran past!

Walk this way

Pedestrians in Cork walk up and down Prince’s Street. One person has to be different, the odd one out eh?

Grrr. Flickr’s Post by email function is broken.

A shark at Kay O’Connell’s fishmongers

A shark’s deadly grin greeted customers to the fishmongers in the English Market on the day this photo was taken.

Don’t you just love the expression on the fishmonger’s face?

PS. Claire took some great portraits on Saturday!

Cork City Tour Bus

The Tour Bus just left without me! An open top bus brings tourists around the city, where to? I’m not sure, I’ve never taken it!

This was on Grand Parade about 9 months ago. The plastic dividers in the middle of the street are now gone and where that bus is driving is now pavement, with the odd road works still going on.

EI-128 on Inch Strand

Last September a large group of glider enthusiasts spent a weekend at Inch Strand in Co. Kerry. They were from two clubs, one in Dublin and one from further north I think. I took down their details but that scrap of paper is long lost at this stage.

Conditions weren’t the best on the day we passed the beach. It was a beautiful sunny day, but the wind wasn’t blowing in the right direction and the only aircraft I saw flying was a powered one. We were on our way home so couldn’t wait around unfortunately. I still got some nice shots. Hopefully I’ll find time to work on them over the next few weeks!

Fruit and other produce are still sold on Cornmarket Street although it’s more commonly known as the Coal Quay.
