Couminole View

Looking out to sea from the steep walkway down to Couminole Strand on Slea Head, the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry.

The film Ryan’s Daughter was filmed in this area and the beach behind me was featured in the gun running scene! Check it out on Youtube. About 2 minutes into the second clip you can see some of the rocks pictured above. The scenes where the IRA and locals run across rocks with waves crashing on rocks in the background was definitely not filmed on the same beach however. Even at low tide the beach can be crossed in about 4 steps.

Footprints on a sandy beach on the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry.

The blue sky, fluffy clouds, golden sand and warm breeze are just the tonic for a relaxing break away from it all.

Watching from Alcatraz

A small hut on the island of Alcatraz looks out on San Francisco. It looks well preserved and anyone in the hut would have a god view of the city and probably the surrounding coastline up to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Fountainstown Sunset

The sun sets over a small inlet in Fountainstown. The tide is out and boats are stranded in the mud.

One thing that bothers me about this photo is the large black bit on the left. I think I overdid the lomo a little although I’m quite happy with the burned in clouds. What do you think?

I’ve ordered another 200 moo mini cards. 100 images duplicated. Should do me for several months I think!

Old Rope

Old rope tied to a rusty old screw embedded in weather beaten mortar at Church Bay near Crosshaven.

I used to dive off this rock about 10 years ago, mind you the tide was in whenever I did!

Seaweed rope

I like the dreamy diffused glow of this image. It was shot down in Inchadony Beach a few weeks back.

Howto: First of all, I had to straighten the horizon because it was at a precarious angle. I used two layers, I saturated the colours slightly in the bottom layer to bring out the green of the sea weed.
I blurred the top layer and converted it to black and white using the channel mixer. I applied a layer mask of a gradient to make the bottom half of the lower layer visible and changed layer mode to screen with an opacity of 100.
I then corrected lens distortion using ptlens running in Wine. The horizon was noticeably bent but this program did a great job correcting that!

Blarney Cork Ireland Nature Photos River Rocks Water

Water falls in Blarney

A river runs near my home in Blarney and a small stream feeds it as it meanders through a nice wooded area on my doorstep.

I froze the water in this image as it fell into the river while we were out for a walk there a few weeks back. It could be better but it’s my first go at this in a long while. Freezing water in motion in a kitchen sink is a lot easier than when you’re outside and there are so many unknown elements.

One last note, my linux.ie email is down right now. If you’re trying to get in touch, use donncha @ inphotos.org instead!
