The Star of David, Dollar signs, the Masonic eye, Christian Cross and a symbol I (and Google Goggles) don’t recognise. All on a sticker in the Church of Hallgrimur, Reykjavik, Iceland. In the church tower there’s a door leading from the observation area into the warmth inside. This sticker is over that door.
Stranger yet are the pawns on the half-circle of the world, with a cross and four dots.
It’s either some kids having fun trolling the local Church, or an elaborate conspiracy. Tin foil hat time!

What I’ve seen of Reykjavik so far has been really nice. Buildings are colourful, the streets are for the most part well maintained and the city centre has cobbled streets so it’s pleasant to walk around.
While on our photowalk today we passed these buildings on the sea front. I thought they were just another apartment building until I noticed that the balconies were fenced in by planks of wood held together loosely!

This is a tutorial that will explain how to add a copyright notice to your photos in Aftershot Pro. It can even be done automatically when you export the image as a Jpeg for publishing online. In this tutorial you’ll learn how to create a new preset called “My Copyright Text”. This tutorial uses the zText plugin.
This is what a simple copyright message will look like but you can change it to suit your own needs.
After you install zText find it in the plugins tabs and enable it, type your copyright notice and set the size appropriately.
You can adjust where the message will appear on the “Preset” tab of the plugin.
Once you’re happy with your copyright message hop over to the Presets widget and click the + “Add Preset” icon.
This window will popup, rename the preset to something meaningful and click “None” to unselsect everything.
Go into the Advanced tab and select zTextPlug and you should see the settings you already configured. Click OK.
Click the Show checkbox next to your new preset and the “Done” button on the Preset widget.
If you have an output job configured you can add the copyright notice as a preset in the job settings to automate the task every time you export a file. One advantage of doing this is your image in Aftershot Pro won’t have the copyright text making it easier to export it again using a different batch output job.
Hope that helped, want some more Aftershot Pro tutorials?
The Blue Lagoon, Iceland. The water is lovely warm, even quite hot in places and is full of silica and sulphur. There’s usually a smell of bad eggs in the air from the sulphur but when we visited it was definitely bacon we smelled. Really weird. A great experience except when hailstone started to fall. Those things can really sting your ears and face. The rest of you will be safely and warmly under water.
Check out John’s great photo at the Lagoon too.
If you visit Iceland you have to visit here!
The warm waters are rich in minerals like silica and sulphur and bathing in the Blue Lagoon is reputed to help some people suffering from skin diseases such as psoriasis.[1] The water temperature in the bathing and swimming area of the lagoon averages 37–39 °C (98–102 °F). (via)
PS. This was edited in Aftershot Pro as well. I used cloning layers to hide some blemishes, and an adjustment layer with and exposure of -1 to darken the sky. I figured out how to use the polygon tool in the layers menu to select only the sky and mask off the rest of the photo. I think it worked rather well!

Statues playing music near the Perlan in Reykjavik, Iceland. So cold while I took this photo. The Perlan offers a great view of the city but the cold wind will freeze your hands! More info on Wikitravel.

One evening while walking near Pairc Ui Chaoimh we noticed the gate at the Blackrock end open so wandered in for a quick look around. I hadn’t been in there in years but it was nice to look around and take a few shots. Must have been a GAA meeting or something that evening …
Like the new theme? It’s Oenology!

A street performer in Galway City last September. Put money in his box and he’d shake a bit and make some noise. Only kids stopped to watch him.
Adults hurried by.

There’s something weird going on with my feed here. I messed up the Feedburner redirect for a few days but fixed it and now posts from Holy Shmoly are appearing here too! I’ve disabled the redirect entirely now. Maybe that’ll fix it and my next post on HS won’t appear here.

A flower or weed? A weed is only a flower in the wrong place, or so I’ve heard. This was taken at Seaside in Florida during the Automattic meetup there in 2010. Beautiful beach there, horrible humidity in September!
This will probably be my last post of the year here so happy new year and I hope 2012 is a great one for you!
