Right, as I have been reliably informed in the comments, this is the John Hancock Center in Chicago. Ah well. I haven’t been there in twenty years.
The Sears Tower rises above all nearby buildings in Chicago in 2003.
It was renamed the Willis Tower in 2009, but when I took this photo from a nearby building in 2003, it was still the Sears Tower.
Wikipedia
Although Sears’ naming rights expired in 2003, the building continued to be called the Sears Tower for several years, despite multiple changes in ownership. In March 2009, London-based insurance broker Willis Group Holdings agreed to lease a portion of the building and obtained the naming rights. On July 16, 2009, the building was officially renamed the Willis Tower.

@donncha Not to be rude but that is the Hancock Tower (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hancock_Center). The crossbeams are a giveaway for me ?

@donncha I don't mean to "Well, actually…" you, but the photo you posted is of the John Hancock Center, which is on North Michigan Avenue. The Willis Tower is in the West Loop. Both buildings are tall black structures and were designed by the same architecture firm, so there are obvious similarities. Here's a shot of the #Chicago skyline. The Willis Tower is on the left, the John Hancock Center is on the right.

@donncha That's not the Sears Tower, that's the Hancock Building. I grew up in Chicago, and I'd recognize that silhouette anywhere. The X's along the sides give it away.
