    I think that @AnnieAtkins might be able to tell us why the tree is dressed in cross stitch, crochet and knitting shapes.

    This looks like a case of Yarn bombing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarn_bombing)although I haven’t seen one with cross stitch pieces on it before, which is nice.
