The flying dolphin is the name of a hydrofoil ferry company that operates in the Aegean sea around the Greek Cyclades islands. In 1996 I had the misfortune to drink all night on one island with my wife (then girlfriend) and then suffer a choppy ride on a flying dolphin to the next island – all our towels and a few plastic bags were used by my wife who suffered ‘some nausea’ and saved her liver having to deal with the large vodkas from the previous night.

I hate long ferry journeys. Took the ferry to France in 2nd year as an exchange student many years ago and did not have a pleasant time with the heaving seas…

My cast iron stomach meant that all I got was a bag full of sick and dirty towels. Still I learned that ‘flying dolphin’ and ‘feeling horribly sick’ were not mutually exclusive concepts.
The ironic thing was that we took the flying dolphin because it was ‘quicker’. – mainly quicker to get sick on!
