Photography Feeds on WordPress.com

·

,

One of the cool things to come out of WordPress.com has been global tags. Everyone who writes articles and posts categorises them in the normal way, but the magic bit is that these posts don’t remain in isolation. They’re added to the tags pool on WordPress.com! Go check out that page now to see what people on the site are talking about.
Even better for us RSS fans, Matt announced this morning that he has created feeds from those tags! I subscribed to the photography and photos feeds immediately, and that’s only the start of it. There are gimp and photoshop tags and a lot more. Just add the keyword to the end of http://wordpress.com/tags/ to sample what people have written. The RSS feed link is at the bottom of the page.
Thanks Matt, now take Sunday off! You deserve a break!

  1. […] I mentioned elsewhere that Matt announced tags feeds this morning butI thought this should get more of a plug because it’s such a great feature! When you write a post on WordPress.com it’s categorised in the usual way but it’s also added to a site-wide pool of posts and identified by a global category. Matt’s announcement this morning means that I can track what people are talking about photography, photos, gimp and even wordpress all from the comfort of my aggregator! Now, how best to encourage people to rename that “Uncategorized” category so their posts are picked up? Related Stories (more, wordpress, feeds) […]

This is indeed awesome. I didn’t actually know that my posts were ending up in this tag cloud until you visited, and I read this post. Thanks for making me aware of it – another reason I’m glad I moved to WordPress!

It is great! I’ve stumbled upon some gems over the last few hours. We have to plug this a little more on the site, maybe adding these feeds to new blogs by default based on answers in the registration.

I also think that RSS are very usefull. They help visitors and also search engines (faster website crawling) and from my expirience CPU load is minimal.
