The wires that ring Shandon Bells

Next time you’re in Cork and you have a spare hour to burn head up to Shandon and into St. Anne’s Church where you can ring the Shandon Bells. They’re heard for quite some distance and any tune can be played. Check out the music in the photo above: “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”, “Final Countdown” and more!

Nice shot Donncha. I like how the ropes disapear into blackness at the top of the photo.
I was wondering how people knew the notes of the songs being played – I never even thought that the songs would be printed out!

Thanks! Ryan and Aidan (I think) tried playing the bells between them. Did a fair job too at some nursery rhyme!

When you’re tugging away (oooh matron) on the ropes however, do spare a thought for the poor feckers above you, climbing up between the bells! Deafened I was. Donncha too. Possibly permanently if not for the hugely high powered, expensive hearing protection apparatus we were wearing at the time.

Really awesome shot. There’s just so much “right” about it, from the angle to the coloring.
