Snow on the runway

February 15th, 2008 by Donncha

On the way back from Arizona I flew via ’s O’Hare . I had a long wait but I have a laptop, a spare battery, DVD and Mame to keep me amused.

I took a few too but I discovered shortly after taking this that photography in most parts of the is banned!

From what I remember, it’s ok to take snapshots of family or friends beyond the security checkpoints, and possibly only with a compact camera. I can only imagine the fuss if I had been discovered taking of the and service areas with my big chunky !

I know for a fact that photography in Heathrow is banned. It’s a good thing too. The flash might set off the dangerous liquids left by disgruntled and thirsty travellers before they go through security.

Have you noticed this is a wide angle shot? I didn’t get my Sigma 10-20 back yet and no news from the camera store. I took this with a USM stuck to my camera. Matt very kindly gave me his lens because he’s buying Nikon kit. Thanks Matt!

Right now you’re name is being churned by Homeland Security’s ultra super-duper computer system and they’ll be after you..

I imagine the US is a much safer place because of the photography ban. So Much safer.

What kept going through my head was if we (at home in Cork) had half the snow they have in Chicago the city would grind to a halt, let alone the airport.. :)

The last time I flew thru Dublin, there was some guy taking a lot of photos of the runway, with a very long zooming camera, and not for one photo or two.. that felt so odd.
At least Europe is less paranoid.. I had once overnight changing flights at the airport, and it was so empty and weird to look at night light that I could not resist either. :)

uninorth13 - if that had been Heathrow you’d probably have been arrested!
