Looking out to sea from the steep walkway down to Couminole Strand on Slea Head, the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry.
The film Ryan’s Daughter was filmed in this area and the beach behind me was featured in the gun running scene! Check it out on Youtube. About 2 minutes into the second clip you can see some of the rocks pictured above. The scenes where the IRA and locals run across rocks with waves crashing on rocks in the background was definitely not filmed on the same beach however. Even at low tide the beach can be crossed in about 4 steps.

When I saw the thumbnail on my Contacts page, I thought to myself that this is familar. And how right I was. I have stood there, transfixed by the power of the Atlantic rolling up against the coast of Co. Kerry. Great shot, and I’m sure we’ll see many more from the "200" which you shot. Well done !

Thanks for the comment on my picture, I have to say I really prefer the moody sky from your shot. It really is a great spot for taking pictures tough.

Thanks Silyld! We had a few days of beautiful weather and I must have taken at least 200 photos in the area!

Wow, I’m quite overwhelmed with the response to this image! Thanks everyone for commenting! I had just pushed Adam in his buggy up the steep slope from the beach and Jacinta was holding him when I took this shot but I wasn’t sure it would come out too well because I was so tired.
I’m glad I stopped to take it now!

Very well-composed and exposed. Any information about post-processing?

Thanks Alexander. Since you ask, I converted it to Jpeg using Bibblepro. The "Perfectly Clear" plugin in that converter did a really nice job of bringing out the detail of the image.
Afterwards in the GIMP I duplicated layers, made the top darker to bring out the sky and used a layer mask to show the bottom sea+land layer. Unfortunately in the original there’s a lot of chromatic aberration on the join between land and sky but thankfully resizing hid that.
For a final dramatic touch I used an Overlay layer with a black to transparent gradient to bring out the clouds even more.
Hope that helps?
