The Swan Whisperer of Galway
If you’ve ever wandered down to the Claddagh in Galway, you’ll know the swans are less “graceful wild creatures” and more “assertive locals who know exactly when the bread’s coming out.” That’s what happened on this day in 2005 when we visited and saw a young woman feeding those swans. Other birds wanted crumbs of…
Dingle’s Gentle Sentinel
Many years ago while travelling on the Dingle Peninsula we came across a donkey in a field in Muiríoch. I posted a photo of him in 2007 and again in 2008 but I happened to come across this photo of him and did a little work on the photo. There’s a chance this donkey is…
Kitte Kat On The Prowl
Kitte Kat stares out from the bushes at us as she contemplates making friends, or enemies. She chose the former and walked out after myself and my dog, Diego. She allowed me to rub her head before wandering off into the garden again at Carbery Guest Lodge on Sheep’s Head, Co Cork. She was raised…

A Striped Antelope at Valencia Zoo
A young antelope stands in water at Bioparc Valencia, Spain. The animal in the photo is a sitatunga, a type of antelope known for its semiaquatic lifestyle. Its splayed hooves help it walk easily through marshy and swampy habitats.

A Chimpanzee’s Afternoon Siesta

A Kenmare Robin
I spotted this little fella down in Kenmare, County Kerry the other day. A Robin, bold as brass, perched right there on a dead branch, posing like he owned the place. He stayed there for a few minutes surveying the area, and let me get a little closer for a photo.
The Guinea Gang
Guinea Fowl in a field on Sheep’s Head, Co Cork a few years ago on a bright, sunny October afternoon.

The Eagle Owl is Watching
An eagle owl at Fota Wildlife Park watches us human visitors with careful, observant eyes. Watching this bird and the others the trainers had was an awe inspiring experience. I’m glad I took my 75-300mm telephoto lens!
