I’m sure every City Hall hides some secrets but in this shot, Cork City Hall hides the looming tower of the Elysian!

The view from the Grand Parade Car Park is a wonderful one in every direction. Rooftops and the architectural sites of the city can all be seen from there. In this view you can only see the rooftops of the city’s shops and old buildings but in the middle distance is the construction work on the block by Emmett Place (featured a few days ago).

Dunnes Stores on Patrick Street Cork opened again last Thursday. This is the store pictured at the end of August when a timer counted down the days to opening.
‘Course, every time I think of this store, I think of the super hero who posed outside it hawking leaflets a few years ago!

Emmett Place in Cork is the sight of feverish building work for the past year or two as a huge city block was torn down and then built up again. Here’s the view from the excellent Aroma Restaurant.

An anchor sits in the main square in Bantry Town.
According to the Wikipedia page on the town,
This anchor from the French Armada force in 1796 was discovered off the northeast point of Whiddy island, Bantry Bay, in 1980 by the Dutch salvage company Smit Tak
Couldn’t find much else about it online after a brief search. Odd.

Last Sunday a “fun day” was held in the square in Blarney. I had completely forgotten about it until we got down there and there was a huge crowd there with food stalls, a bouncy castle and this inflatable slide and various races for all the kids. Shame about the weather though.
Barry’s Balloons obviously had a hand in supplying some of the entertainment and looked like a lot of fun!

A man taking a break in Bishop Lucey Park, Cork. Coca Cola Ireland made headlines last week when it emerged they were going to outsource their distribution network. Unions weren’t happy of course.

Mannix and Culhane on Washington Street occupies a low single storey building on the corner with North Main Street. Did they lose the top floors of their building a few years ago? I remember a girl was killed just up the road when falling masonry from a neighbouring building fell on her.
I have a vague recollection that this building was found to be similarly weak but maybe I’m making it all up in my head.

A building on Castle Street in Cork City collapsed yesterday crushing a parked car but thankfully not hurting anyone. This is the scene earlier today where the building has been demolished and in the process of being cleared up. As I left, a truck reversed into the street, presumably to take rubble away.
The crushed car is in the foreground and according to a man I met at the scene belongs to a local business man (and still had a year on it’s NCT, don’t think it’ll pass the next one!)

A man relaxes in Bishop Lucey Park while all around him people enjoy the festival that day. Taken during the photowalk last month.
Amazing what cropping does to an image. The original was so busy and I struggled to find the image I wanted out of it but I like this.
