The evening after the storm

Ireland has been lashed with some severe winds and storms over the last 2 weeks. There’s destruction in many locations around the coast and inland too but sometimes the storm abates and the sun shines between the clouds.

Shandon Bells from Afar

The steeple of St. Anne’s Church towers over the surrounding streets as seen from Coburg Street, Cork last night.

I laboured over this photo. I could not get the shade and colour of the houses in the middle-background right for quite a while. Sometimes it was too bright, or too blue, or too dark, or just not right. Only after I left it for a few hours and came back did I recreate what I saw last night.

Crosshaven Evening

Yesterday evening in Crosshaven, Co Cork. It was a beautiful end of the day. Not quite as hot as other days which I was thankful for but many people out and a good atmosphere in the town.

Edit: here’s the original photo!

Boats in Cobh

Some of the boats that have taken up semi-permanent residence in Cobh pictured in 2006. I think some of those boats are still there!

That was a beautiful but cold January evening.

Just a beautiful evening in San Diego

I arrived in San Diego a few hours ago and the first thing I noticed when I got into my hotel room was the amazing view of the Pacific Ocean. This doesn’t do it justice as the foreground is a little too dark but I wanted to get it uploaded with minimum fuss so here ya go!

Sunset Chimneys

Chimney stacks loom over the town of Clonakilty in County Cork in November last year.

PS. happy new year!

Saint Finbarre’s Sunset

St Finbarre’s Cathedral silhouetted against the sunset in Cork yesterday. It was freezing cold but the skies were mostly clear and snow hasn’t fallen in the City or here in Blarney either yet.

The country is going through a recession but you wouldn’t know it. After driving around Parnell Place twice I parked in Merchant’s Quay but had to park on the roof because the place was full. Many of the shops were very busy, and the streets were crowded with shoppers.

So cold though.

PS. the version of gthumb in Ubuntu 10.10 sucks. Missing now is the “Duplicate” menu item, and I can’t drag photos from one folder to another. Grrr. It is faster however.

Take off from Quebec Airport

Quebec Airport has all you might need: free wifi, free power at some seats and even a children’s toy area for the kids to play in! Nice sunset too! 🙂

Night Over Quebec

Night falls over Quebec as we finish our tour and photowalk around the city. ISO 1600 came in very useful as the sky got darker! Pictured here are a few of the buildings just outside the old city walls. I think the Hilton is the building on the right.
