Under a Turkish Sky

We visited the Çamlıca Tepesi yl (Çamlıca Hill) in Istanbul last week. It’s a hill on the eastern side of the city. There is a huge Turkish flag flying from a massively tall flagpole, and you can see out over the Asian side of the city from the nearby park. The city just seems to go on and on.

Thanks, Peter, for showing me the yellow lines on the ground make for good leading lines. I’d originally shot this much closer to the taxi.

A Splash of Colour

This is the sort of contrasts you’ll see in Cork City during the Jazz weekend. Loads of people dressed to go out for the night, surrounded by shoppers and families dressed for a late October day.

Waiting to run

A mirror of a mural

A black and white photograph depicting Bishop Lucey Park. A large mural on the side of a building features a man in a suit, appearing to be painting or working on something. In front of the mural, a person is elevated on a platform, possibly working on the mural itself. The scene includes an arched stone gate with ornate ironwork. Two people are visible: one leaning against a railing and another standing nearby. The setting appears urban, with steps leading up to the area where the people are located.

What caught my eye when I saw this in front of me in Bishop Lucey Park, was the man leaning against the railing seemed to mirror the pose of the figure in the large mural on the wall.

The park itself is closed off now. This is a picture of a bygone era. Can’t wait to see the new layout of the park!

HNLMS Dolfijn Visits Cork

In 2003, the Dutch submarine, Dolfijn, or Dulfun, visited Cork for a few days. I happened to be around town and spotted it from Kennedy Quay where I’d been photographing the ships, buildings and machinery.

When it left Cork, it headed to Mallorca. September in Cork is nice, but I wouldn’t mind a few days there in October!

Winthrop Street Dug Up

A construction site in a city, with the middle of a paved road dug up.

In early 2005, Winthrop Street was dug up and repaved. I really don’t like the modern surface. Part of it feels slippery, and the middle section is uncomfortable to walk on. Anyone else?

A dog walk in Lisbon

A woman walks her dog in Lisbon. She stopped outside Centro Social Laura Alves.

Laura Alves was a Portuguese actress who was born in Lisbon in 1921. She passed away in 1986. Read more about her on Wikipedia.

Doggy had their hair done

It’s lovely to see well cared for dogs. Shih tzus need so much grooming or their fur gets in their eyes, but this one had a nice bow, and happily walked along a street in Madrid.
