Reflection on Half Moon Street
Construction work on the new block on Half Moon Street, Cork nears completion and reflects the brightly lit houses on the far side of the River Lee and the looming grey storm clouds. This shot’s for Richard who commented on a shot taken the other direction last week. PS. entries are still being accepted for…
The Clock Tower, Youghal
The Clock Tower in Youghal is a building you won’t miss if you travel through the town (and despite the great bypass around the area, we got caught in a huge traffic jam!) According to this page the tower was built in 1777 and had a grisly past, In 1777, the town’s Clock Gate was…
Wide Open Spaces
The wide open space at the top of Patrick’s Street in Cork is a crossroads for traffic going along Cork’s busiest streets. It’d be a nightmare to cross without the pedestrian lights, not that stops people racing or even sauntering across in front of oncoming traffic.
No Shandon Bells from Academy Street
The bell tower of St. Anne’s Church in Shandon may well be one of the most recognisable sights in Cork but it’s no longer visible down Academy Street and as a consequence, possibly from Patrick Street either. Back in 2007 I snapped this photo of the tower and it’s well I did because the construction…
H&M Cork
H&M, one of the larger tenants in the new shopping center being built here on Academy Street.
Woodford Bourne & Co
The top of Patrick’s Street in Cork is dominated by Mc Donalds, taking over from Mandy’s in the Woodford Bourne & Co building. Check out this old advert from 1910. You can still recognise the building! Much more information about that structure can be found here. I vaguely remember Mandy’s but don’t remember it before…
The 8A Bus
A man gets on the 8A bus to Curraheen on Patrick Street, Cork last Saturday. This was on the way to the photowalk, walking up the street with Chris to where Will had double parked because he was driving home again. Chris had dropped his camera in the car when he got out!
100% Cork
A butchers shop in The English Market was all decorated in white and red flags last Saturday. Did Cork have a big game last weekend?
Out of the rain
A young lady steps out of the rain on Tuckey Street, Cork last Saturday. What you don’t see in this shot is the large group of photographers behind me, sheltering under the awning outside Tribes. A torrential rain shower had just passed and thankfully was the last we saw. PS. Cork photowalkers! Upload your images…
Beauty Treatment at The Body Shop
I’m still recovering after the photowalk yesterday! I took a quick look through my photos this evening and decided I’m not over the moon about any of them. A couple are ok, but there’s that little critical part of my mind saying, “crap, crap, crap, blah, ‘s ok, focus is off, boring, what were you…
Open Happiness
Youghal, last April. Coca Cola sells happiness while Tesco tries to sell bargains. PS. I just posted a gallery of photos from the IBA 09 photowalk last February.
Reliant Robin
A Reliant Robin, as seen in Charlesfort near Kinsale last March. Remember the one on Mr Bean? Wikipedia has more on this diminutive car.
