Happy Playing Music

A man busking in Emmett Place, Cork a few weeks ago. I forgot to ask his name and he apologised for his playing as he was learning a new song so he was likely going to be strumming the same chords over and over again.

This was shot when I was out with Blarney Photography Club and it was shown at the next meeting. Another photo of him was shown too from a lower angle and closer which I think is better than this one, but this is the one I have so it’s all I’ll post!

Anyway, is it street photography if your subject is aware of you and looking straight at the camera? Before you answer, watch Bruce Gilden in action:

The beautiful smiling woman in the background is on a poster covering one of the front windows of the old Moderne premises on St Patrick’s Street, Cork.

While out with Blarney Photography Club we stopped to make some photos of this striking yellow background with passers by in front. There were five of us there so we were hardly inconspicuous but people kindly ignored us! 🙂

Still Pushing Buggies

A new book featuring pictures of Cork was published recently, Cork in the 1960s. The front cover is a photo of two women pushing a buggy and a pram on St. Patrick’s Street.

I was on that street today and when I saw the book in the window of Waterstones I had to make this photo when I saw the opportunity.

It was nice to get out with Blarney Photography Club today on a photo walk!

In a world of their own

This couple were engrossed in conversation walking across the busy junction of Washington Street and The Grand Parade without waiting for the lights. A moment later the man looked towards traffic and put his hand out to stop a car that was heading towards them!

Unbelievable.

Charcoal Grill

A lady in sunglasses caught me red handed taking a picture of her at the stall she was at in Patrick’s Street, Cork in July 2013 during some street festival.

Day 3 of the ?#?FiveDayBlackAndWhiteChallenge on Facebook for me and I was tagged by Ronan a few minutes ago to do it all over again so I’ll keep going for ten days!

The Love Hate Tattoo Crowd

A new “Love Hate Social Club tattoo shop” opened in Cork today with a bang, or at least a party. There was a big crowd outside from 6pm on waiting to get in and join the party.

I hadn’t a notion what was going on, and still don’t except it has something to do with a reality tv show called Miami Ink. Must have a few fans in Cork, or maybe they knew there was free booze? 😉

Ground Level by Bishop Lucey Park

The Grand Parade in Cork was quite different 11 years ago. Outside Bishop Lucey Park was an uneven path, the centre of the street was a narrow section between two busy strips of tarmac. And of course the Capitol Cinema was still open. I’m glad the monstrosity pictured here was never built there, even if the site is still dormant. Equal to the Ferris Wheel

A few days ago I had a chance to shoot the city and took the opportunity to get a higher vantage point to shoot the Ferris wheel on The Grand Parade.

I’ve decided to license this photo and any newer photos under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. This basically means you can do whatever you like with this photo, even commercial usage (although opportunities might be limited because of the web size of the file) as long as you credit me as the author and share the (altered?) photo under the same license.

You could if you were so inclined add little stick figures dangling from the gondolas in this photo, with one plummeting to it’s death while the others are rescued by their friends or a passing eagle. I’d be fine with that. I’d be very happy with that! Just remember to mention me and link back here. That’s all I ask.
