Gougane Barra at Sunrise

Gougane Barra, where the River Lee rises and the location of a monastery Saint Finbarr built in the 6th century. A modern chapel, called St Finbarr’s Oratory dates back to 1903.

The image above is a HDR panorama of 9 photos merged together in Lightroom and is a result of a very early visit with Blarney Photography Club this morning. The spectacular light was totally worth getting up at 5am for!

Frank Flaherty, Cork’s Birdman

Frank Flaherty is pictured above feeding pigeons on Daunt Square in 2019. He was recently approached by a litter warden who told him to stop feeding the birds because local businesses complained of excessive bird poo and feathers in the area.

The Mother of our Cats

Mommy Cat, a now elderly cat who has lived with us for over 12 years now, is a semi wild cat who brought her kittens to us many years ago. There were six cats altogether. Three boys, a girl and their mother. She has never let us rub her, unless we get a sneaky rub in as she’s facing away but she immediately tries to bat our hands away. However, her offspring were and are the most affectionate cats. Unfortunately the three boys were killed on the main road beyond the ditch. Mommy Cat rarely leaves our garden now, and Hoppy mustn’t go far as there are feral cats around.
