The winds blows softly

On a lovely evening in August last year I was walking along a beach with my wife. The sun was getting low in the sky casting a faintly yellow glow over the world.

This long exposure shot captures the movement of cloud, and the wind blown grass. Even though there wasn’t much wind, it’s all relative when the photo is 13 seconds long.

Psst. Don’t tell anyone, but there’s a really nice beach around the corner from Wine Strand!

A kite at the Basant Festival

I visited Carrigaline yesterday for the Basant Kite Festival. It was a lovely day, and the forecast rain stayed away for most of the afternoon. Here’s one of those kites flying high over the bandstand in the town. There weren’t many kites flying but it was lovely to see them!

I asked Bing to generate an image for me of people flying kites at this festival and it came up with some odd looking ones. DALL-E really is nowhere near as good as Midjourney, but this was the best one.

Vineyard Vistas in Portugal

Amidst the stunning scenery of Portugal’s Douro Valley, we found ourselves at Quinta da Roêda, a picturesque vineyard nestled under a breathtaking blue sky. As far as the eye could see, the vines stretched out into the distance, beckoning us to explore further.

A solitary tree stood tall nearby, while on the horizon, two tall, thin evergreens created a natural border against the rolling hills. It was a serene moment, a glimpse into the raw beauty of nature and the splendour of the Douro Valley’s vineyards.

Prepping the Wing

One of the days during a team meetup in Germany recently was spent hiking across a mountain, up and down steep snow-covered hills. On the way, we passed by what is evidentially the launch site for people paragliding.

They would fling themselves off this slope and soar for I don’t know how long, catching thermals and circling far overhead.

Not for me, but the wings were very colourful!

Sunset at Seaside

It was the end of another sweltering day at Seaside, Florida. The sun was setting in a blaze of glory. The sky was on fire with dramatic rays of orange and pink, and the clouds were playing their part perfectly.

I spotted a swimmer going into the water, and she made for a nice silhouette on a fiery evening.

A Morning Walk in Santa Cruz

Way back in 2013, at the Automattic Grand Meetup, I took an early morning walk along the promenade in Santa Cruz. The sun had already risen, but the world was quiet, and I enjoyed a solitary walk before the day’s work had to be done.

Loading the containers

Loading a container ship in Malaga Harbour. The sun has already set but there’s a lovely glow in the sky!

Trying something new this time. You’ll probably have the visit the site to get the full effect. I’ll be uploading these images to Instagram shortly.

As before, these images were cut up with the convert command:

Malaga after the sun set

If the sky is right, Málaga harbour has some stunning sunsets. The colours of the sky are reflected in the waters of the harbour. The industrial and urban buildings on the far shore make for pleasing silhouettes defined by the setting sun.

Silhouette of the North Side

The steeple of St. Anne’s Church, or Shandon Bells, The North Cathedral, and street lighting on a pole with a bird on it are silhouetted by the setting sun. Steam rises from the Heineken Brewery in the foreground.

The Ferris Wheel after Sunset

The Ferris Wheel on Grand Parade in Cork pictured just after sunset, in December 2016. This year the wheel is further up the street so you can’t get this photo now.

I haven’t been in town at sunset this month either but hopefully someone got a nice sunset photo of the wheel this year.
