Which way from Castletownbere?

There are so many places to visit in West Cork. Here’s a few of them. We didn’t visit Dursey Island but the beach at Allihies is lovely!

Fancy ass public transport

OK, so it’s not quite a bus, but it’s a stretch limo. I saw it again today cruising up and down Patrick’s Street with the rear window open a crack. I’d hate to see that try to navigate a tight bend!

Guide Me

Guide Me, a boat left high and dry above the beach at Baile Na nGall in Co. Kerry.

Declan from O’Learys Camera World rang this morning. My lens has arrived. I’ll go collect it tomorrow!

Stolichnaya Russian Vodka

A huge advertisement for Stolichnaya Russian Vodka on the side of a building near Union Square in San Francisco. It proudly stats, “Choose Authenticity”.

This is the sight that greeted me on my first night in the city!

Jesus Christ still loves you

A year ago I photographed this man holding the sign saying Jesus Christ Loves You in San Francisco. Amazingly he’s still in the same spot. That’s dedication for you!

Expired Meter

An expired meter I spotted while we waited for a table to become free in a restaurant in San Francisco a few blocks from Union Square.

Photo has been "cross processed" using the Curves tool. I created an S curve on the red and green channels, and then applied a lomo plugin for good effect!

Beware the giant duck!

If you come down to Blarney today you should watch out for the giant ducks, and if you sit on a bench look behind you, there’s a good chance a tree is reading over your shoulder.

Don’t get me started on the dastardly Parking signs!

Yes, walking around Blarney can be quite dangerous especially if you meet some of the little people. The leprechauns are out and about these days. If you go to kiss the Blarney Stone, you’re almost guaranteed to see them in the grounds of the castle. Unfortunately due to the high cost of living and the price of property, their crock of gold has been sadly depleted to the extent that they are forced to entertain tourists. ’tis a sad day!

Just remember, always look out for the giant ducks!

PS. on a more serious note, the August issue of Digital Journalist is out now!

PPS. Alex Shiels, who I work with at Automattic, has a photoblog called Flight Path hosted on WordPress.com. He’s done a nice job of making a photoblog theme out of the Sandbox css theme! He’s already posting photos from San Francisco. His latest shot, street level 2 is a dark foreboding image taken over there. I’ll have to start working on some of mine, but the last few days have been hectic. I don’t know how Alex managed it!

The Stephen Pierce Gallery Cafe is open

A large sign outside the gallery and workshop of Stephen Pearce Pottery in Co. Cork proclaims that their cafe is open for business. I didn’t go into the cafe because I was walking around with Oscar while Jacinta was inside looking around. It was a beautiful day so I didn’t mind.

Stephen Pearce is very popular and most recently did a deal with a local supermarket chain, SuperValu, offering his products at a discount with stamps. I don’t care for his work much but a lot of people like it and he’s doing well!

No climbing the poles

A sign that points upwards? It either forbids drivers from driving down a road, discourages people from climbing up a light pole or local government don’t want people to look up. Your guess is as good as mine. I’m stumped!

Low Fat = Low Flavor

Sign above the doorway leaving Memphis Minnies, San Francisco. We had a delicious lunch there! Yum!
