Suffering in the heat
It's hard to believe that Ireland can be warm and roasting given the cold winds that blow around this time of year but back in June last year we had a heat wave. I can't stand the heat of the sun, and by the looks of things, this gentleman isn't too fond of it either.
Oooooh!
A girl sitting in the warm roasting sun in Kinsale, Co Cork last summer. Decisive moment? She smiled in the next moment!
Towering over the Little People
Wherever you look on the north side of Cork City you're bound to see a massive tower bristling with antennas. It's an Eircom building AFAIK but I've never stopped outside it to look so it could be the secret offices of PROC for all I know! :) Shot from Shandon Bells last Saturday.
Romans Walk
Someone stole their chariots.
Mini & the pussy
An (ancient?) Mini, one of the older British design, not the new fangled BMW ones that are as big as a Yaris, and of course a pussy cat watching me carefully. This was shot near Shandon Bells after we braved the heights of the tower to shoot the City of Cork. Now take your minds...
Piper’s Funfair Crosshaven
A bright and colourful poster advertises Piper's Funfair in Crosshaven! In other news, this blog is a finalist in the Irish Blog Awards on Saturday next in the Cork International Airport Hotel. Here are all the finalists. I'm honoured to make it this far as some amazing photoblogs were nominated. Best Photo Blog - Sponsored...
Waltzer
A truck in Piper's Amusements, Crosshaven, bears the logo "Waltzer". Not quite as much fun as the Waltzers funfair ride but there was no sign of them yesterday!
Jack Bergin, Crosshaven Hero
We spent a pleasant afternoon in Crosshaven today. It was mild enough to actually enjoy a walk up towards the fort on the hill. As I walked past the merries I spotted this plaque. It must have been hidden every other time as I don't remember it ever being there. The inscription reads: OUR GRATITUDE...
Wild Woodbine
Wild Woodbine, an advert in Cronins Pub, sits under the counter. The pub is full of memorabilia which adds atmosphere but I suppose they were probably bought in a dusty warehouse full of such things for the tourists. Very nice pub though.
Father Mathew’s Yoyo
The statue of Father Mathew, the "Apostle of Temperance", is a prominent landmark in Cork City. It's at one end of St. Patrick Street looking north to the river. Some joker gave him a yoyo to pass the time.. More on Wikipedia.
Shih tzu’s Eyes
Our shih tzu Oscar looks up at me as I photograph him on Christmas Day 2007. He must have wondered when he was getting his Christmas dinner! (Later, when baby was gone to bed!)
Good food causes cancer
If accompanied by a cigarette, any kind of good food isn't going to help your increased risk of getting cancer from smoking. Shot on Carey's Lane a few weeks ago. The girl who left the cigarettes came back a moment after I took this shot. Have you noticed that more women smoke than men? Is...
